Having problems with mpg how do I raise it on a 2001 dodge Dakota 4wd 5.9 v8 magnum
I'm only getting about 9 or 10 in town and about 12 on highway.

The 5.9 is a thirsty engine but your mileage does seem a bit low. My '01 Ram 2500 4X4 got a little better than that. How many miles on the truck? Does it track straight with no odd wear on the tires? If you get up to speed on the highway and ease it into neutral, does it coast or slow down right away? I'm assuming you don't have a lead foot, that will eat gas fast.

First thing I'd check are the spark plugs. Replace or check gap.

When you lowered it, did you have the alignment corrected?

I thought you said you lowered it but looking back over the posts, it must have been someone else as you didn't say it here. Both myself and HeyYou have asked how many miles on the engine. That, plus running temperature are very important. I suspect something but need to know how many miles on your engine.

I've been mulling replacing my O2 sensors as well cause I'm at 312K and they've never been changed. Still, the truck is running superbly and I was averaging 17.6 mpg on a recent drive to VA, with my foot in it the whole way. Here in Atl traffic, I get anywhere between 13-15 mpg. Don't know if I'd see much improvement, if any.
