Not yet.. I just finished gunking down the engine bay and pressure washing the rat turds off... Next I will blow out the plug holes and yank the plugs... Probably not until tomorrow what the ground dries a little.
I visited our local salvage yard today and asked what a builder long block would cost. He quoted $1200... wow LOL

Water in 3,4 and 6... The plugs are totally worn out so the earlier plug pics certainly did not come out of this truck... You simply do not remove decent plugs and replaced with trashed ones

The motor does turn ever so slightly now under starter power so I will atf the cylinders and see how it goes in the morning.

Pull all the plugs, feed 'em all some trans fluid. Let it sit for a day, then crank the engine with the plugs out.

I believe the 4.7 is an interference engine. As for swapping the 4.7, you'll need to get one with a 16 tooth stator ring. Later ones were 32 I believe. I haven't worked with the newer generation engines much. I dealt with one and only one 4.7.
Thanks for sharing... If that were to be the case, I believe I was be the first person to have a fuel injected nut cracker!!

Today was an interesting day. Managed to remove the fan clutch and get Marvel Mystery oil in the cylinders. I can not believe our Wal Mart did not have any AFT at all.. Unbelievable, 2 employees and myself looked. After letting it soak for a while I thought I would give the crank a tug... Nothing. not even the slightest bit. Not to be discouraged I resolved it until tomorrow. I spent the day cleaning the interior, I must say it looks amazing.

Marvel will do the job. Your engine is going to need a rebuild. When I got my '03, I was looking at rebuilt and used engines and they ran about the same around here.

Good morning Sir... I agree the motor is going to come out. I found one on FB Marketplace out of a 2001 Dakota 4x4 that is being parted out... Said he wants $750, seems fair.
My truck has a vague background as in (apparently) been in the family since new, passed around between family members, no title has been produced as of yet so it seems prudent to hold off getting too far into it until I have something besides a bill of sale in my hand.... Owner is working on that.
The way I came by the truck is that the owner was about 6 hours from being evicted from their apartment and they have a baby on the way. So the $100 I gave for it and tow it away is a win/win for the both of us.
I am getting up in age, retired and a project like this is great fun for me. I appreciate everyone here and the knowledge shared. I currently attend YTU as well and I think I can pull this off.

I've always believed it's a good idea to try to do well by doing good. I'm pretty sure the Universe has ways of getting back at people who gouge others regularly. Definitely make sure you have a good title. I've never bought or sold an Arizona vehicle so I don't know the ropes there. If the engine you're looking at runs and doesn't spray for mosquitos, $750 is more than fair. I always like to replace expansion plugs, clean the oil pan and maybe replace the oil pump with a high volume (NOT high pressure) one and generally do a mild rebuild. I've never done a timing chain on the 4.7 so I don't know how hard it would be on an engine stand. Still, if the rest of the truck is as nice as you say it is, it sounds like you'll have an older but nice truck for $1500 or so. You can't beat that with a stick.
