Might be too long for the engine compartment...... But, it would certainly be a good choice, if you could make it fit.

So an FYI, I know how that dakota was done, and it's exactly as HeyYou described - it's a bolt-in gear-over using a Corp14 or F9 middle axle and stock rear axle. I know the person who did it, used to work for him (Daniel Little; formerly USA-6x6, last I knew was operating under DBL designs).

Using a set of rockwells with the 4.88 gear conversion would be one approach. I don't know if Daniel or his competitor offer the gear-over as a separate unit. Last i checked SCS was making them for the outfitters.

Need an axle that it will actually bolt to. I think that leaves the ford 9 inch.....

Considering Ford has used them in just about anything, forever.... They should be pretty easy to find. Likely going to need some modification to fit properly under the dak though. I suspect any you find, will be too wide, need to move spring perches, and shock mounts and such as well.

Probably. I suspect once the rear setup is complete, the truck will sit rather low in the front. May need to do the SAS just to level it out.

The SCS box bolts in place of the daytona support bearing in an F9 or Corp14. The third axle can be stock. On that dak, I believe they used a F9 center with Chry 9.25 outers to accept the stock 03/04 rear discs with the stock 6x4.5 lug pattern. Ride height was not raised IIRC to clear the gearbox, but at full compression it was close to the bed floor. Rear suspension was a mirrored 5 link I believe (a design that Daniel came up with to allow the rear axles to "rear steer" together, once upon a time there existed an animated CAD drawing of how it worked).
