I just got a 98 Dakota with the 2.5 Manual and it doesn't have the power to get out of its own way. Has anyone put the V6 in this thing? Is it fairly plug and play? Will the transmission bolt up?
So many questions, just trying to see if it is worth the time researching. I tried searching this forum, but came up with nothing useful.

(My wife bought it without me seeing the truck)

I am looking at a full truck 1999 Dakota with the 3.9 as a donor for $500. Even if I don't swap engines, the parts alone will be worth it.

So far as I know, parts should swap between the two trucks, Don't know what trans came behind the 4 banger though... so, no idea how it would survive behind the 6....

According to ALL PAR the 2.5 and the 3.9 came with the AS 82 5 speed transmission. I am going to assume I can use my existing tranny for the swap.
If I end up doing the swap, I will make a post on here with lots of pics.

 

No a 98 with a 2.5 or a 3.9 had the AX-15 trans a weird but ok trans.
