on a lighter note, once I get this swap completed, Ill be sure to post up a well maintained 46RE transmission for sale on this board. Absolutely no issues, fluid/filter changed every 12k miles....just want a manual...lol

Because the Dakota never came with a 5.9 from the factory, so far as I am aware. Have a chat with Hemifever tuning, or Flyin' Ryan Performance. One of them should be able to set you up.
The only thing that will change in the PCM is the programming, and whatever tuner you use, will keep a copy of the stock tune, should you ever wish to go back to it.

Rookie
I am also looking for an NV3500 5 speed manual for my 1998 5.2 V8 Dakota that came with 5 speed, my orig. trans is making lost of whining sounds and grating sounds, particularly on deceleration. Looking for a good trans or rebuilt one in the Denver area.
Well looks like I have a transmission inbound so next rider if business is a driveshaft. Need a v8 MT club cab driveshaft. My current shift is a single piece. If a driveshaft is not possible then just the transmission slip yoke will work.

Isn't the slip yoke the same, regardless of engine size?? You might be able to have your shaft shortened, or, a custom shaft made up. There are places around here that do that kind of thing. (granted, it's a drive, but, less than an hour away. Or Detroit, about an hour and a half.)

Possibly but slip yoke is different for manual trans vs auto trans from what I'm seeing.Originally Posted by HeyYou

I think on the full sized trucks, they were the same for all the gas engines, except the V-10.... and diesel, the latter two had a slightly larger diameter shaft. Of course, the full sized trucks never had a four cylinder as an option though.... So, anything is possible. Originally Posted by stormbride1
