2000 Brake upgrade
I have a 2000 Dakota ext. cab 4X4, 4.7. I have in the past pretty much replaced most of the brake parts and the brakes still don't work as good as I think they should. I have read the many complaints about this so I don't believe I'm the only one. I also have run across the idea of replacing my front brakes with later model Durango brakes. I've searched this forum and Google but, can't find a good post explaining this conversion.I would guess there may be one somewhere but I haven't found it yet. Any help would be appreciated
It's fairly straight forward. For an 00 you'll need the tie rod ends and brake lines as well.
Fundamentally, go to junkyard, find an 03 durango/dakota or 04 dakota, pickle fork the ball joints, unthread the tie rods, and throw the entire loaded spindle in your wheel barrow. Go home, do the same to your 00, hang the 03/04 loaded spindle, change tie rod end and brake line. Done.

Start on page 23 of my build thread, through to page 25. Has all the part numbers for the swap I did.

I did this upgrade about a year back... works awesome.
While mine gave me some issues, it was fairly straight forward, all that is needed is to grab the steering knuckle, caliper and rotor (and maybe the brake line) from the doner and bolt it on. Mine came from a 2003 Durango 4wd.
here is some info on my swap for some lessons learned... Brake upgrade in progress... - DodgeForum.com
My suggestion would be to flush the calipers before the install. I ended up using ATF in there and got a good amount of gunk out, then flushed with brake cleaner. The goal was to remove any debris that might be clinging inside which might cause the caliper to stick. Truck went into full service mode back in march/april time frame and have had no issues with the brakes after the conversion, probably 15k miles now.

Going to be exactly the same (just add removing the hub nut and pounding the CV shaft out), but finding 4WD donor spindles will be a lot harder. Durango will probably be an easier find in that department.
Ok, thanks for the info!
