Default Headlight Issues

Hey guys. First post here.

Just picked up a 98 Dakota SLT 5.2L. Great truck. One issue I’m having is headlights. They work intermittently.

I pull the switch on and fogs always work. But headlights only work some of the time. If the headlights don’t come on, if I pull on the high beams they only stay on if I hold them.

Didn’t see any loose or burnt wires. Fuses are all fine.

I did replace the stalk a few days ago with a cheap Amazon one and that seemed to solve it. But the problem came back.

has anyone encountered this before? Any recommendations?

First thing I'd do is replace the bulbs.

bulbs are fine. They do work intermittently. Issue seems to be with the circuit.

Did you check the headlight switch itself, and it's connector??

I'd still be thinking the multi-function switch, it does the high/low beams.
If the high beams are also intermittent then the headlamp switch itself.

yeah I’ll double check everything again this weekend when I have some light. The parking lights and fogs (when I have them on) work 100% of the time when I pull the headlight switch.

But if the headlights don’t go on, when I pull on tye high beams they come in and go off right away. If I hold the switch they’ll stay on. So I’m thinking either another bad switch or perhaps that connector.
