ok finished. used plastic dryer vent hose and thats it. i cut the original intake hose about 2" of the air box to use as a mount. luckly the dryer hose fit perfectly around it, seccured it w/ a twisted wire. cut through the front rubber plate and ran the flex hose right through the new hole up front, and it too is held in place by another perfect cut(lluck). took about 10 min. and cost less than $2.00
now i can stick my arm all the way trough the front into the air box. might be alittle ghetto but it works. next i'm going to try to piece one together out of sheet metal just for looks. thanks for the help...

Good stuff rhowe. I couldn't find anything with a larger diameter than what I had other than the metal dryer hoses and those just looked way too ghetto for me to use. I need to remember to write down my mileage next time I fill up to see my gains, but it may not be much, lately the D just wants to go faster and I am only along for the ride.

on first driving it, it does seem to be more responsive on the throttle. the power feels a little stronger also, or mabey i just want to gas it more. i'll just have to keep an eye on keeping k&n clean. i'd do a mileage test but i can't see the reasoning of filling up the tank and carrring all that extra weight.

Yeah you know what I did to counter my gas hogging in the first place? I bought my wife one of the most fuel efficient vehicles on the road so that it evens out. She has an 06 Scion Xa. 31 city 38 highway. I haven't seen my overhead console do any better on mileage but we'll just see on my next fillup.

may be i'm getting carried away, but heres what i added to the intake: cut the top end of an oil funnel off and siliconed it to the front of the new air hose right past the rubber blocking plate, behind the grill(it acts like a cup, just to capture any extra air). attached a screen behind to the back left side of the grill(facing the front end) to keep the bugs out. And smoothed out the bottom of the air box with sheet metal to direct air flow better upwards(directly to filter). i been committed on not spending $$ on moddin my truck but this sucks, now i'm hooked. must get throttle body and exhaust!
