I removed the entire stock system and replaced with a Edelbrock 14" round air cleaner that sits on top of the throttle body. It [:@]sounds like a 747 taking off when you stand on the gas!!![:@]

I am not sure on your year of truck but on my V6 2003 and V8 2004 it is the square plactic box over the intake on the top of the engine that the long air tube connects to and is removed by 2 bolts in the front and the gear clam on the body of it.
when you install the full CAI kit you replace this with a new tube, see pictures below.

ok you know where the intake hose turns into the fender and it sucks the air from that dead air space well i removed that hard curved hose from the air box and put like a flex tube on it and ran it in between the headlight assembly and the radiator so the air the comes through the grill is forced into the air intake i had to cut a circle in the rubber piece that is right there then shove the hose through it i also put a screen on the end to keep bugs out. you really got to watch it when you wash the truck too dont want water in there. but it was a very cheap mod and increased my mileage by about 3 mpg
