hey kota, your post sparked some thinking for my own question whether to do the 14" can or a CAI off to the side. Anyway in my travels around the net I cam across which might be helpful to you...

btw - are you planning on fabbing up a functional cowl/scoop to let cooler air in or just satisfied that more air is getting in?

The drop base and spacer is what I used on mine. You can open up the shield next to the radiator and remove the seal at the rear of the hood for a flow-through of air.

Mine fits with no problem only because of the 2" body lift. If you remove the rubber gasket/seal at the rear of the hood (like I did) you will now direct all the hot engine air directly into the fresh air intake for the a/c & heating ventilation system. Not so bad in the winter, but not fun in the summer! Also you get to live with engine compartment fumes/odors in the cabin of your nice truck! I closed off the center intakes and put foam gaskets/seals on the left and right to block the hot air from enering the fresh air intakes. [sm=signs003.gif]

The other problem with screwing up the engineered airflow underhood is that you're directing air around the radiator, decreasing the effective cooling capability. Ok if you're never working the truck, but on a hot day in traffic or if you're towing/hauling a load you will run hotter.
