Default Cam Upgrade

I am looking into upgrading my cam, roller rockers, arms, and springs...only problem is I don't know the specs and ratio of the stock cam. Does anyone know the best cam and all to upgrade too? I have the 5.2 liter 318 automatic. I want more horsepower and more of a rumbling sound in the engine, but I still want to be able to use it as an everyday driver. Any suggestions?

Mike

Here is a good page about the 5.2L

http://www.dodgeram.org/tech/gas/specs/5_2v8.htm

and a cam I have eye-balled for a bit, but I would do your own homework before just taking the word of anyone online. This cam would require new springs to handle the lift.

How much Torque do you actually lose with the cam/roller rockers/springs/arms upgrade?

Thats ones of those un-answerable questions. Its all about your selection, not just on the cam, but intake, heads, rocker arms, all of it.

That cam I posted about is very good cam for increased HP while helping torque as well, but if you want something that is a street racer (which a truck street racer is an oxymoron to me) you might want something a little more aggressive that will increase the HP but rob you or at least not add anything to the torque side of things. The best thing is to first decide what you want your truck to be, a street racer, torquey little 4x4, daily driver....then call comp cams or crane, or some place like www.krcperformance.net , as most places are very friendly and will talk to you about what you want and need to get there. Go to that website and just look at how varying the HP and TQ is with different setups and setups that are very similar except one or two parts.

Definately want a 4x4 daily driver, if I wanted to race I would've bought a car, but I want to add hp, gas economy, and torque

I have a CAD and a 3" body lift right now, I'm eye balling shorty headers and dual exhaust as well. Just putting all my ideas on paper to see the budget.

A decent setup would be CAI, headers on back exhaust, 180 stat, underdrive pulley, 1.7 rocker arms and a 50mm TB. If you chose wisely and shopped around you could do that all for under 1K.

Another question, how much torque gain do you actually get from a 50mm TB? Is it worth the 250+ dollars it costs?
