Default 1/4 tank

ive got a 99 extra cab 4 by and my wife has been driving it lately. so , she tells me that when it gets to a quarter tank that the check engine light comes on..ive never heard of this sort of thing and was wondering if anyone has any ideas on this? shealso said that when she fills it up that the light goes out ... puzzling isnt it?

are you sure that it's not the gas guage light. cause my sister was driving my 88 dakota and when she gave it back to me the check oil light was on. and I asked her how long its been on for, and she said for a week[:@]

well now it knocks like hell. I would get her to show you what light it is that keeps coming on at 1/4 tank.

Could be your gas sensors. My dads suv does that, has the truck ever ran totaly out of gas? Somtimes you have to reset the sensors, or you might have a bad sensor... might want to check them out or clean them.. ive never changed them or even know where they are, but my dads suv does the same thing and he said that is what the problem is..
maybe somone else can tell you how to change them out or clean them...

Could be a sign the pump is going .Check if the fuel pressure is bouncing around when the light comes on next time .A worn pump will run hot when it is not covered in fuel .Back when there was only one RED light ,I would hear from people "the red light came on so I drove it to the garage to see what was wrong". For those people I call it the "Change Engine light".I replaced my 95 pump with a mustang pump.I got the number here some where.Just can't see it now of course.

a loose gas cap can trigger a check engine light.
