my pioneer unit has never given me anytrouble, its a flip down and the contacts have never worn out, even with normal use, makes the stock speakers sound decent, suprised, my dad had it installed at circuit city when he first bought the truck in 01 with the xm transmitter, good stuff

lil,

FWIW, go to crutchfield and use the "what fits----" feature on their web page, that way you can get an idea of what you want and how much it will cost.

Also, Dodge uses a "non-standard" radio and antenna connection so, when you replace the head unit, you will most likely need two adapters, 1 for the antenna and1 for the head unit unless whom ever does the install starts cutting wires.

Also, if you think in the future that you may want to use an i-pod or satellite radio make sure that the head unit you buy is expandable to be able to handle the additional technology later on.

Just my .02

If you want crisp sound go with Inifnity speakers, if you want more bass go with poineer speakers, if you want a well rounded bass/crisp go with alpine type s or r with r you will need a sep amp. s's can run off the deck amp.

If i did anything.. i would go with a small 10" sub in a small box and a mono 400wat amp, and get some Infinitys all around. That will give you the BEST sound quality and a little bass.

Speakers come in a set of 2, so you will need 2 boxes for 4 speakers, each box costs 41.99 to install you will also need speakers harnesses thats another 7.99x2

So...

Install Charges...
Deck = 49.99 or Free (depending on the time you buy it)
Speakers = 41.99 for 1 set x2
Material Charge = 5.00 (required on all installs done at best buy)

Parts you will need...
Dash Kit = 19.99
Wire Harness = 19.99
Antanna Adapter = 12.99
Speaker harness x2 = 7.99

Products...
Alpine Deck =179.99-199.99
Speakers = 104.99-145.99 x2

Like i said infinity speakers are the way to go.. they are pretty much the best we carry, you could go with alpine for a tad more bass, but the infinitys are going to sound ALOT better.

If i was you.. i would go with Alpine Deck, Infinity Speakers all around, 1 10"sub with a small amp hidden somewhere, that will give you your best sound quality.

The speakers you listed are not componets, componets have the tweeter outside of the mid cone, you need a crossover to run them and useally an amp or they sound like ****. The ones you have listed will be fine to run off any deck.

Although the deck you listed does not have sub control or any extra features, i would step it up to the 179.99 one and get a better built inamp and the ipod feature, just incase you wanna expand in the future, also if you want to put a sub in your truck/car in the future the 9846 wont do it, but the 9852 will...

as for the the setup, it will sound better then stock for SURE!

the alpine speakers, sound pretty good, they are well rounded, they have the mids and the highs, like i was telling lil pioneer speakers are more for mid bass not for highs, and infinitys are pure high but very crisp, alpine are right ion the middle.

O ya.. install..

Speakers = 41.99 a SET
Deck = 49.99 or Free (depending on when you buy it)
Material Charge = 5.00 (all installs have this charge)

and if you where asking if componets are a possibility in your truck, then yes they are you can get custom work done to the pillers in the truck and have the tweeters ran to the pillers and have the mids where the normal speakers go, i was actually thinking about doing it myself, although your looking at another 80+ bucks for the componet speakers, and 64.99 install for 1 set of componets plus you need an amp to run them.. so its ALOT more expensive.

quick question since i think i am the only one with the problem

i bought a new kenwood from best buy and i got the wire harness from there as well since i said i can do it myself. so when i hooked it up the way the harness says i get no sound, the radio lights up and everything else just no sound. and i noticed that the wires from the truck are nowhere close to matching up, colors are off and the negetives are lined up positives. I hooked up a house speaker direct to the radio and it works so i am only left with trying to find out what the wires comming from the truck represent.

does anyone have a diagram? and could tell me what colors go where

anything would help

thanks from the noob with no sound

if you bought the wireing kit for your truck then it should be easy as cake.

on mine the wires were the same colour as the radio. I just had to match up the colours and solder then together. then pug in the harnesses.

you will have 2 sets of wires for the wireing kit. one of them will have all the speaker wires on it. and the other one will have you power, romote, ground, etc.. one connector is black and the other one is grey. and they plug into the factory plugs. then wires from your mounting kit attatches tothe wires on your deck. and they should all be the same colour (atleast mine were)

and the wiring kit and your cd player should have came with diagrams.

the only thing that matches up on mine are the power, illumination, and memory. all the others seem backwards. its a 2001 r/t if that makes a difference.

thanks though jonny
