Throttle body spacers

Are they pointless or are they useful?

I think there more usefull as a paper weight.

you actually lose power with them. that and the tornado[:'(]

save up your money for a real upgrade.

Ha, you do not lose power with a TBS. IF you buy a TBS thats worth anything at all it will have rifled groves in it to spin air in a circular direction which in all since helps gas milage, cools air, which creates power and also makes a cool sound. ALSO it is used to displace heat coming from the intake manifold. It is proven to show drops anywhere from 3-15* in temp depending on the application. You really wont see to much gain using one but i like them.

I like to use this in root SC'd applications because it helps with high temps on the TB

But like i said, you wont see much gain, if any, i like them and they dont hurt anything so if you got a few extra bucks buy it, i would in no way say you are waisting your money.

A phenolic spacer will isolate your throttle body from the intake manifold heat, but you'd be hard pressed to get even a 3 degree difference in intake charge. They're far more useful on a carb'd setup where the fuel sits in the carb soaking up the heat as well.

If you actually think that air going through a 1" thick, 3" diameter spacer gets spun into a vortex I've got a bridge to sell to you. Additionally, have you looked at the intake manifold design? Even if it did spin the air, what good would it do? It's not spinning the right way to do any good at all. The motion of the air through the manifold is far too complex.

Hook, line, and sinker man. I know for a FACT that carb spacers make a difference - my buddy played with one on a dyno in his power wagon. Without, with a large hole, and with four smaller holes - each one made the dyno graph chart differently, making up to 40 lb-ft of difference. I don't recall the HP difference.
