Default timing chain rattle?? 97 3.9?

I've been doing some research and i think the rattle my truck is making could be the timing chain. I guess the 3.9 doesnt come with a tensioner? am i right on that? Should i just buy a new timing chain and replace it or do i need to buy other things?

Yes, apparently, the 3.9L motor didn't come with a timing chain tensioner from the factory.
Read this TSB.

So should i just buy another timing chain and forget about the tensioner? Its 41 bucks for that thing. I would think that if i put another one on the slack would be gone and so would the noise.

do a good double roller chain and you'll be good to go. the tensioner is for a stock chain and not necessary IMO for a good double roller setup.

My understanding was that i need 2 tools. One to pull teh damper, and one to pull the balencer, is this right?

no the dampner & balancer are the same part, just different terms for it. your biggest headache is going to be getting the crank bolt loose. if you have an impact wrench, use it. it's your best bet. if not, a good strap wrench would be your next best bet.
