Default O2 sensor (I tried searching!)

I did a couple searches, but I find searching this site is more difficult than others I'm on...

First my truck threw a P0138. Then it went out one day and recently it's throwing a P0138 and P0141. It is my understanding that these are the same O2 sensor? Does this mean instead of it malfunctioning it's now totally shot?

Should I bother with AutoZone replacement sensors or just buy the OEM Dodge one from my local 5 star stealership?

I need to get a manual still and it's either been cold or I've been working so I haven't crawled under my truck to look, so I have no idea where the sensors are on my truck. Can anyone enlighten me?

Thanks a bunch.

i believe one code is for the signal and the other is for the heating part of the sensor. autozone replacement sensor will work just fine

Only so many people make O2 sensors. So sometimes they're just packaged differently. http://www.sparkplugs.com has some O2 sensors decently priced.

Check out Cataylic delete. We talked about sensors there. I deleted both of mine and it is working great. I found the by-passes on e-Bay. Double check you local emission laws though. Good luck

P0138 HO2S Circuit High Voltage Bank 1 Sensor 2
P0141 HO2S Heater Performance Bank 1 Sensor 2

This should be the second O2 sensor, when O2 sensors start to malfunction they are shot and need to/shouldbe replaced.

Before you buy a new one you should price it out at Autozone, Advance Auto, NAPA, dealerships, and places on-line like MakeItMopar

In MA I need cats. Whether the inspector notices or not is another question.

I'll just go to the Zone. I have a buddy who works there who usually hooks me up. I've done O2 sensors on my Neons before, but I don't think those cars had two codes for the sensor malfunctioning so I was just double checking.

By second you mean downstream? I still haven't gotten a definitive answer as to how many sensors my truck has.

you could have up to 4 if it's the 2003 dak... you should have 2 cats, 1 on each exhaust manifold and then 1 final cat on the collector. the o2's that are upstream can be cleaned using CRC electronic components cleaner if they are not 100% dead (sounds like yours are)

The guys in the shop say the post cat sensors are usualy good for 60 to 80k km and they just wear out from the heat and gases. Use the correct socket to remove and soak with WD-40 as much and as long as possible before removal.

i'd use liquid wrench or pb blaster on them, works better than wd-40 as it gets into the threads better. also, if your going to clean 1 of them, yank them all and clean them all. since I started cleaning mine, i havent had a problem with them. no codes and no driveabilty issues.

Thanks guys. Hopefully it's done snowing so I can take a peak under my truck tomorrow.

It's weird. The CEL went out today and I got 17 mpg on the highway with my sandbags (200 lbs) and ~100 pounds of furniture too. Usually I get 20ish so a drop of 3 mpg in the cold all loaded up seems about normal.
