To anyone thinking about cutting off the cats....

well the inspection stations that are around me look for that kind of stuff too which means that they know if the O2 sensor from after the cat is missing so i need to have it in, need to have a wire going to it, and i need to have the cel off so im screwed at this point unless i find a way to do that but idk ill see what i can do and let you guys know

that sounds the same as my 3.9 too. I just dumped mine right after the cab, so mines a bit louder.
but here, it's soo hard to pass an e-test. you have to have a full exhaust and cats.
I would have just got a highflow cat. I have one on the 99 and it made a big difference from the old clogged one.

There are two things you can do, either cut 'em off completely, or you can get the high-flow cats. They are built w/ a straight thru desigh, but also are supposed to work better than factory (dont have one on my truck, but will soon). What I did was just hollowed the cat out, gave it kind of a tinny sound under the pass. floorboard, but really sounds good w/ lots of power. I put a Flowmaster (I know, I know, your all suprised) w/ a turndown in front of the rear axle, ad I think it sounds great, and no tail pipes to get in the way!

i dont think that was a cat you cut off. i think it was the frt resonator. my dak has the two upper cats and a resonator off the pipes.

Some states already do this.

Just my $.02
I second that! Think about the future a bit, in general, don't do it, there isn't a significant gain of more than maybe 2hp MAYBE and if you want good sound get a V-8...or in a V-6 use free flow cats and take out all the resonators.
also for you guys that dont want to or can cut your cats out. try giving CGS performance a call they have high flow cats and different o2 sensors that should just bolt in
that all sounds good an it is good to see that we have a couple of enviromentalists in the group+(im being nice about it) but i dont know what the deal is with my cat but i do have that tinny sound when i step on the gas hard enough, usually aroun 2500RPMs to 3000RPMS when going up a hill or under a load.
