Default 2004 Durango - Plugs Change At 30000

Has anyone changed (or had them changed) the plugs and wires at 30,000 miles as suggested?

I have a Service Plan that covers it, but was surprised that the plugs get changed at such a low mileage. I thought the plugs in today's cars could last much longer.

Anyways, have you seen any positive results in changing them? Mine is running fine and I'm afraid to have the dealer touch it because I don't want anything to break after they work on it.

Thanks,

Randy

The plugs are not due to be changed at 30,000. I don't have the service manual in front of me as it is in the truck but I know it was closer to 100,000.

I cannot speak for the 04 for 100% but my 05 did indeed call for a plug change at 30K miles. The dealer changed them and said that the engine was designed for the regular spark plug so replace them with those. I dont want to get in to the debate about longer lasting plugs vs the cost of the cheapies. I just put regular ones back in and its fine.

I just checked the manual and it does state at 30,000. So I stand corrected.

My Service Contract took care of the plug change. They also changed transmission fluids and transfer case fluids too. Get this....when driving it home, it started to shudder when going about 50mph. Not real bad, but noticeable. I called them and ragged on them because it was running perfect when I took it in to the dealer.

They determined today that the torque converter is causing the shudder. What would they have done to cause that? I knew I shouldn't have let them touch it, but I didn't want to void any warranty crap.

At 43000 miles my durango is still running great, but I checked my manual and it recommend replacement of spark plugs at 30000. I have always done my own maintenance on all my vehicals....but when I attempted to locate the plugs I could not see a single one...much less reach one easily.
Can anyone who has changed plugs and plug wires reply with some helpful hints...or at least there cost to have someone else do this.

Thanks in advance,

firstday

A maint contract is something that you had already paid for.And the dealer has no say over the contract, just do the work. But you don't want the plugs replaced let the dealer know, and alway ask for the old parts.
