Default Resale Value and Dad

Ok I gotta problem.

Dad's buying me a truck. Now he doesn't like working on cars in general cuz he seems to always screw something up so he has no "Brand loyalties".

I do. Being here it's obvious which motor company I really like. Being in this forum section it's obvious which truck I want. Let's get down to the problem.

He's saying Fords generally have a higher resale value along with foriegn manufacturers.

So what do I say to this 50 year old man (They married late in life) to get him to buy a mopar?

Right now it is very much a buyers market for any kind of a gas drinking vehicle. With a few exceptions, most vehicles these days will give you a good return on your money as long as they are maintained and not greatly abused. I would politely tell him that you VERY much appreciate him helping you with this purchase, and that you would really like to have some input on it. Before you do this though, amass a bunch of info here from the internet to support your point of view.

Good luck with your endeavor. Don

Ford? Bankrupt Ford?

Ask your dad which car company has a LIFETIME DRIVETRAIN warranty? Better yet... TELL your dad Chrysler is the ONLY one with a LIFETIME DRIVETRAIN warranty. If that doesn't do it, nothing will.

from one 50 year old dad to another. go with the lifetime drivetrain warranty - and then keep it forever and drive it till it drops. its a good deal.
i've owned very few cars in my life - 2 fords, 1 chevy, 2 dodges, 1 honda (son), 2 toyotas (daughter). frankly, they're all just cars, and after you drive them for about 10-15 years, they're worth next to nothing...

If you're worried about resale value, any automobile isn't goingto yield much dividends. If resale is'the' decidingfactor, you may want to consider leasing instead of buying if mileage restriction isn't an issue. All cars depreciate, and the longer you keep them, the more they ALL go down. Even the so-called resale champs have a decent amount of depreciation after the first 2 years. And the more incentives on New cars, the lower the price goes down for used cars.

The best deal right now is in Warranties. And with Chrylser's Lifetime powertrain included with thepurchaseis the best deal out there. I just hope they keep it around until I buy my next Dodge.

Well he's looking at it from resale cuz I'm not so good of a driver. If I total it (God forbid) The insurance company we have will pay more for it (since they assume possession of it after a total) leaving us less in the hole to purchase another vehicle.

That's where he's coming from.

Well, if you are a "not so good driver", the last thingI would be worried about is resale value. Maybe a good professional driving course (the kind you take at a track) would bemoney better spent... The next would be a good liability and medical policy, and then the automobile....

Ohh I've seen the prices on those courses (looked um up myself) Trust me, He ain't gonna pay a grand for me to attend one. I got no chance in hades for that to happen. We are talkin a litteral act of God for that to happen.

He's anti-sports all together. I tell you the man was born with no *********. He has 0 interest in sports and it blows his mind why men talk about it so much and scream at the TV. My grandfather, he was the gearhead. My grandfather would've most likely been the one to ask about that kinna thing. He also liked boxing and football.

I am my grandfather's grandson. I dunno if I'm related to dad or not sometimes.
