I'm hoping the part number on my invoice is a newer part number than the orignal. I have contacted Safety Research & Strategies, Inc. and they will be getting all the vin /parts # information for their assitance with the 2004-2008 09? Gas Tanks issue.

Add our 05 Durango to the list of "gas spewers" that Chrysler has excluded from their recall. I called the local dealer asking them to cover the repair, which they refused to do. They said I would have to call Chrysler, which I did.

The nice lady there said they would do nothing as it wasn't covered under any recall. I asked what recourse I would have, and she said I could get the repairs done, send them a copy of the bill, and they would CONSIDER reimbursing me. I asked her to please reconsider due to the obvious safety and environmental risks, and she said she didn't have that authority. I asked to speak to whoever had that authority, as there have clearly been exceptions to that rule.

I am waiting for a promised call from a Chrysler supervisor to discuss their refusal. I only got that promise after I said that I will file a lawsuit if I have to pay for the repair. I also informed them I would be filing a complaint at the NHTSA site, which I have done.

It is clear Chrysler will have to be forced to recall the vehicles suffering from this obvious defect. Has anyone approached an attorney about starting a class-action suit? I will video our next fill-up showing we are experiencing exactly the same problem covered under the recall, and will gladly add my name to the list of plaintiffs.

Polite persistence paid off! After I didn't get the promised call back within 24 hours, I called Chrysler and Robert said the supervisor wasn't on shift yet, and would call me as soon as they got to work, no later than 8PM Eastern.

Within minutes I got a call from Shari. She apologized for not calling back earlier, and took the time to let me vent about the fuel spewing all over my wife and the runaround I was given yesterday.

At first, she stuck to the company line- sadly, my vehicle was not included in the recall, so there was nothing that could be done except for me to pay for the repairs and then 'request' reimbursement from Chrysler. I said that clearly wasn't the case, as Chrysler had in fact arranged no-charge repairs for other Durango owners who were arbitrarily left out of the recall, mentioning this thread.

I also mentioned videos of fuel being spewed out of Durangos were posted on Youtube, showing Chrysler clearly had more vehicles with the problem than they had recalled.

Shari asked me to hold for a couple of minutes, and came back advising me that someone a rung up their corporate ladder had authorized a direct payment for the repairs, and advised me to take the Durango to my nearest dealer to get the repairs started! We have an appointment on Friday.

Also, got a reply from Sean Kane, who asked for more info and a copy of any repair bills. If you are having this problem with your vehicle, please take the time to submit your info to him at safetyresearch.net! He needs the VIN and Date of Manufacture, mileage and/or date when the problem started, current mileage, and a scan of any repair bills if you have already had the repairs done.

I did the same as ddslt5421 until I got it fixed, but that is like buying bigger pants or a bigger belt to remedy a weight problem,

We tried that too, but still had splash-back filling an almost-empty 27 gallon tank with 20 gallons of gas.

06 spilling gas. Dealer replaced tank under service contract, but did not replace filler neck. After replacement, tank hard to accept gas; i.e. nozzle shut off after a few gallons. Returned to dealer, apparently they will be replacing neck filler tube.

On both my orignal tank and now the new tank in the 08 The low fuel light comes on and I can drive it another 40 miles, with the needle is on E (or below) I still cannot ever get more than 20-21 gallons in.

Some day I'm going to carry a gallon in a gas can and just see how far it will go till it runs out.

I wonder whether these tank capacities are in fact 27 gallon. I was only able to put in 21 gallons myself.

I've never been able to get more than 21 gallons either. Before and after the new tank.
