Same exact issue I had after replacing the faulty tank....three tanks and filler tubes later, it finally got fixed. Complete mess in how both Dodge and the dealership handled this issue.

Still waiting for Dodge to finally address the issue before someone gets hurt.

I took mine in two years ago under the recall, and the problem has returned. I have not had time to get back to the dealer, but Chrysler has not figured out what the real problem is.

BTW - I put 25.5 gallons in the tank...and I drove it there. I am sure its a 27 gallon tank.

For those who are experiencing this issue:

Seems that we have several recent posts indicating that polite but firm persistence is paying off.

To that, I will add that our 05 Durango at work with ~68K on it and a build date of 05/05 has been doing the burp thing for several months now.

At first dealer asserted that vehicle was not included in the recall as VIN was not in the covered range.

I was informed yesterday that they finally agreed to make the repair for $200.

I will see what exactly was done, and report back for the good of the group.

To date, my own 04 has not exhibited this issue, and I hope it does not.

Just wanted to add my 06 Durango to the list. I bought it used and the company gave me a warrenty with it so I will be pursuing this gas spewing issue with them and maybe they can get Dodge to correct this on at least mine. I am also going to file a complaint with the nhtsa so the numbers will grow.

While at the Delaer today they mentioned that there was just a memo regarding the fuel tanks in 2007-2008 well it happened to be for Jeeps. But it all appears to be the same Check valve issue.

Did some lookig and found this.

TSB/warrasnty extension issued for '07/'08 JK fuel tank inlet check valve!!!
Chrysler has released a service bulletin about the fuel spill issue in some 2007 - 2008 JK's. They have extended the warranty on the inlet check valve. If you have this issue you get a free gas tank, if you have paid to have it fixed you can be re-imbursed for the repair. Submit your receipts directly to Chrysler. The extended warranty will show up on a VIP report if your vehicle is covered. The service bulletin is 14-001-11. Build date restrictions apply.

Service Bulletin # 14-001-11, dated February 11, 2011.
Fuel Spit Back During Refueling (Unlimited Time and Mileage Warranty Extension)

Models:
2007 - 2008
Note:
This Extended Warranty Bulletin applies to vehicles equipped with 3.8L engine (sales code EGT) built between March 1, 2007 March 31, 2008.

Repair Procedure:
Replace the fuel tank.

Well, I guess some would call that "progress". What about the '06 Durango's and other years and vehicles?

I fear that it will take someone getting seriously injured before Dodge and the NHTSA take action. Sooner or later, someone is going to get fuel in their face and eyes. Hopefully, that is not followed up by a series of unfortunate events (ie stumbles back into a car driving through the station).

All:

The process seems to be to contact Chrysler corporate, and be POLITE but FIRM.

The number of folks getting this repair done for a co-pay between $0 and $250 is growing every day.

This information suggests they know there is an issue, but are waiting to see who will accept their initial rebuff, and cough up the quoted ~$1k to replace the tank and filler neck.

If my D were doing this, I would not accept it as is. I witnessed our recently repaired 05 doing its regurgitation thing. I would estimate somewhere around 6-8 ounces of fuel sprays out when this occurs.

Too much of a safety issue and fire/explosion hazard to let it be!

As they were replacing our tank, they broke the fuel pump, which they didn't have in stock.

We have a nice loaner for the weekend.

The gas tank is the only part they replaced in mine.
I was reading the invoice and the part number for the tank is 68027992AB $187.00 Labor is .9 hrs Dodge should be fixing all these if its that easy.
