Gas fill overflow on my 06 durango
My 06 Durango is great other than my new problem that everyone else seems to be having with the gas overflow. I've been digging around the net a little. The basis for the recalls for the 05's was that if introduced to a spark or source of ignition it could cause a vehicular fire. It's also not with just the Durangos but many other models. I'm calling Dodge on Monday to see what they say. If any of you decide to call also, make sure to mention the reasoning for the other recall and ask how this is different.
It's only going to be a matter of time before one catches on fire and a law suit hits because they refused to fix what seems to be an ongoing problem. Maybe if enough people call they will issue another recall!!!! Worth a shot.

I had that problem also, I bought my 06 used in 08 and when I went to fill it up the spray almost covered me. Thank goodness it wasn't my wife filling it. It happened three more times and I went in to dealer to complained. They checked it out and poped in a new tank and never had a problem again and that's been 25,000 miles ago. You need a new tank and filler hose to fix problem.
I made a video of my 2007 overflowing. Just started this a few months ago. You can see that the amount of gas that spills is significant. It's weird that there is a pause after the tank fuel filler shuts off.

Doubtful Chrysler or GM are going to be the next Toyota. If you check the recalls they have recalls that look as bad or worse than Toyota current problem. They don't get media or government attention mainly because the government now owns them and they are union run. Toyota is getting a bad rap on this recall crap because to the Government, now they are the competition.
To the original post though. My 2007 Durango Limited started doing this October when it started getting cold. Only way to stop it is to pump the last few gallons slowly stopping occasionaly. It will be interesting to see if it continues once the air temperature get warmer and the gas is more volatile. Hopefully not since the cut-off will probably work faster. I will file mine with NHSTA too. The dealer just told me to come in, and that they had never hear d of the problem (yeah right!). Of course they want me to come in out of warrant to pay them $600-800 to replace a gas tank and filler tube. This is dangerous and hopefully the government does the right thing and recalls it, but I have my doubts since there is a conflict of interest now (ie government overseeing government).
