The Aspen is a Durango. They are the same vehicle with different sheet metal and interior sections here and there. They were build in a single line, 3 could be a D, then 2 As, then a D then an A, etc.

The Aspen is discontinued and it was a higher trim level than the Durango. I think it came standard with the 5.7 liter and leather interior,

We have an 06 Durango and it has 54k on it and just in the last couple of months started doing this. If it was the tank or filler neck it would do it from new. I think I will try cleaning the Evap vent. Hope that works. Overall I really like the D.

You may be looking the wrong way... There is a Valve inside the tank that prevents any gas spillage during a roll over collison.

The burping begains when this Valve goes bad. Dealer fix is replacing the filler neck and the fuel tank.

I'm thinking this is a bigger problem than there letting on to..

I had mine 06' in recently for other issues (stalling when going from reverse to forward) but they could not find an issue & said cost of new tank was $600. I have not found anywhere that says 06's were covered by the recall like the 05's. I think i'll try the cleaning thing & go from there. The leaking is starting to show in the paint.

There were two recall's for 2004 and 2005, for fuel problems. Rc H45-09 and RcE01-05. These may not apply to your problem, but you may want to call the dealer and have them run the vin to see if there is a recall on the truck.

Of course I too have this problem on my 05 Durango. Just contacted them and they stated "nope no recall on your VIN" Imagine that, the problem exsists but they only want to fix a select few. What a joke!!!!!

Also called the dealer, he said he has never heard of the problem. The cost to replace the filler neck, not including the tank $300+

Great job on the customer service Dodge, what's it going to take, someone overflowing the tank and setting themselves on fire to relize that maybe, just maybe other vehicles with a different VIN may be having the same problem?

Lost my respect!

Default 2005 Durango Recall # E01 for Fuel leakage when pumping gas

Dodge is not including all Durangos in the recall so my 2005 is left off the list but I urge others to go to the website below and file a complaint to get our VINs included in the recall.

Vehicle Make / Model: Model Year(s): DODGE / DURANGO 2005
NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number: 05V034000 Summary: ON CERTAIN SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES, THE FUEL TANK FILLER TUBE INLET CHECK VALVE MAY NOT FULLY CLOSE AT THE END OF REFUELING. THIS COULD ALLOW SOME FUEL TO ESCAPE FROM THE VEHICLE FILLER NECK. Consequence: FUEL LEAKAGE IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE CAN RESULT IN A FIRE. Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE INLET CHECK VALVES AND REPLACE THE FUEL TANK ASSEMBLY FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON APRIL 4, 2005. OWNERS MAY CONTACT DAIMLERCHRYSLER AT 1-800-853-1403. Notes: DAIMLERCHRYSLER RECALL NO. E01. CUSTOMERS MAY ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S VEHICLE SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), OR GO TO HTTP://WWW.SAFERCAR.GOV

Minn esota's info is good. DON'T GIVE UP! My 2005 was not covered under 1st recall. I contacted the dealer & they said $700, please. I had to call Dodge service @ 1-800-India 4 times, spent about 8 hours, & finally was escalated to a Dodge supervisor in the US. I had to tell her about the NHTSA website's existence but they insisted I was not under the VIN numbers in the recall. My dealership never heard of the problem either (yeah...) I kept her on the phone for about 2 hours. She finally wore down. Just be nice & plead your case about gasoline & explosions in front of your children.

DON'T GIVE UP! Month's later & 3 "replacement" gas tanks...finally fixed. I think the dealer was trying to fix it on their own or Dodge shipped them rigged replacements. After the tank stopped spewing, it refused to accept gas. I had to fill it up $.50 at a time, take the nozzle out, put back, put in $.75, repeat, repeat, until full. A real PIA.
I received 2 of these tanks but kept pleasantly complaining & returning to the dealership. I started my process in November 2008 & it was finally resolved in April 2009 when they expanded the recall & sent a 3rd replacement tank for me.

DON'T GIVE UP! Since things were fixed I've had no problems but it took a lot of persistance to get it done.
