Default 20 inch rims

I have a 05 durango and was thinking about putting some 20 inch rims on it. I was wondering if anyone has done this and knows if the tires will rub when pulling a heavy load. I have a 23ft trailer I pull and don't want the tires to rub when pulling. Thanks

How heavy is your trailer? Does your rear end currently squat when your towing it? Do you care about MPG's?

If you care about MPG's, I wouldn't put 20's on as it will kill your MPG's. If your currently squatting cause your tailer is too heavy, I wouldn't put 20's on it as you'll likely get your tires into your wheel wells on the rear.

My 2 pennies.

Since 20" wheels are a factory option (2007-2009) as long as you keep the factory size tires which is 265/50/20" you will have no problem. I just put
20" on mine with the above size tires and do like them. I also run 22" with 305/40/22" in the summer and they fit fine as well. The larger 22" with taller than stock will hurt towing due to the weight and change in effective rear gear ratio. There is no change in rated towing capacity of the 2007-2009 with 20" vs the 17" or 18"

Even with the 22" and lowered suspension the tires dont rub. The wheel wells of Durango's are huge.

going from 17 to 20's shouldn't affect the gas mileage. Should it? Not that it matters I only get 15 now.

It will be negligible depending on your gears,

You are towing a bass boat. The boat, motor, and trailer are likely what 3500 lbs combined at most. Max out your towing rating and I would gather you will be close to rubbing. Especially with bumps and dips.

You are adding more tire that needs to travel down the road. I would imagine that you would loose 1 -2 mpgs depeding on engine.

I pull a 20ft Bass boat and a 23ft travel trailer. Sounds like I should stick with 17 inch rims. I don't want my tires to rub.

Is your travel trailer a pop up unit or standing box unit? I can't imagine that the bass boat and trailer weigh enough to make you squat much in the rear, but those travel trailers can be brutal sometimes.

A couple of pictures for thought. I have stock 17's on my SLT 5.7L 4x4 with heavy duty shocks and 10 ply tires.

The first picture a boat that I picked up in Long Island, NY is a 26ft Robalo. The boat itself weighs in dry at 6500 and 7000 lbs and the trailer is another 2200 - 2500 lbs or so. Total weight 9000 - 1000 lbs.

The second a 33ft travel trailer. GVWR 10000 - 11000 lbs.
