Dodge Durango Failure
I will never buy a Dodge product again. I loved my 2004 Durango until Thursday, when I turned on the engine and a rod fell off and punched a hole in my engine block. And when I contacted Dodge about what was clearly a manufacturing problem I was told "Oh Well, not our problem."
My mothers Ford van in currently at the dealership for a manufacturing problem which is being fixed by the company and she has a rental car until the problem is fixed. And let me be clear, my car was well maintained and I actually planned on buying a new Durango when this one was paid off and my husband was looking at a Ram. Guess what, that has certainly changed!

i see a few problems with this post
1) rods DONT just drop, something had to have been done to the truck, maybe you maintained it, but that doesnt mean that the previous owner did, it is also likely that you took the truck to a jiffylube or similar for oil changes, they are notorious for screwing it up, not putting enough oil back in, putting in the wrong weight, not changing the filter ect, all your fault by the manufacturers point of view(meaning they didnt screw something up)
2) if it was a manufacturing problem im sure there would be a number of other cases of this happening out of nowhere, there arent, therefore NOT a manufacturing problem
3)you posted this a DODGE ENTHUSIAST FORUM, we all like our dodge products and your story is going to do nothing more than **** many people on here off.
4)you posted this in the WRONG SECTION, why dont people read the stickies which specifically say READ THIS BEFORE POSTING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! really? i want to know i have been moving an obscene amount of posts out of this section lately
5) you will not get help from most of the members on here w/ that attitude, we understand you are unhappy, but griping about it to a bunch of enthusiasts will get you nowhere

Which engine does your 2002 Durango have, and how many miles are on it?
Some of us take great cars of our vehicles, but things do wear out. We understand that you are frustrated, but a bit more background would let us know more about your situation.

Common issue on 2004 Durango's, at least 15-20 of them on these forums. Just google it and you will find even more.
If I had a 2004 5.7, I'd get rid of it. If it failed on me, I'd be pissed too. I'd try to get the car going fast enough to run it into a tree or something lol. Sucks paying $3-5K on a used engine on a 7 year old vehicle.

Not disagreeing with you here, but it sure beats paying triple that for a newer one.

I can feel what this person is saying. I have had a "R" problem with my 5.7L and took it in to the dealer several times. I was told each time that they could not duplicate the problems. I hit 8x,xxx and the torque converter takes a crap.
I have had a rod knock on the car for at least 40k and mentioned it to the dealer and was told it was normal.
Dodge dealers are crap and so is their customer service. i will never buy a new dodge again. I do not like the customer service that they provide, not do I like the b.s. that the factory feeds customers.
With this said, I have be lucky that the car looks good still as I have seen many with paint problems that are newer than my 04.

Another troll. Sheesh.
No paint problems on my wife's 2006. Haven't seen ANY 2nd gen Durangos out here with paint problems, actually, and there are a fair number around. No idea where you came up with that.
With any $tealership, you will have bad ones and good ones. Just like retail stores for electronics, clothes, etc. Just because you had a bad experience at one dealership doesn't mean you should label the whole company.
If you bought it new, it has a warranty. Use it. If the dealership refuses, take it to a different dealership, or call up to Chrysler Corporate to force the original dealership to do their thing.
Use common sense.

I had the car looked at by 4 dealers under warranty and called corporate. To no surprise nothing was done at the time. As far as paint, here in So Cal I have seen at least 20 2nd gen durangos with major paint issue. Most of it clear coat flaking. This is a small number for how many have been sold and are running around, but is still and issue.
So to say I had one bad experience and not having an idea of what i have been through is pulling the name calling trigger a little early.
Read what I have posted in the past as well as what was in my post on this thread. I am in the industry and have seen poor customer service with in the industry. This drives me nuts. this is why people hear and in the world call the dealers "stealerships".
All 4 dealers that the car has been to has had problems with their service. Things change when I call their bull or I would show up in my dealer uniform.
