Might be the fuel pump relay or the pump itself.

Since it runs when you spray some in, sounds like the fuel system is the place to be trouble shooting.

Agreed, and if you take the time and effort to go in there and change out the filter you should have put in a new fuel pump to avoid a duplication of work.

Dixie:

That's the smart way to do it.

Ok, have you tried the key dance to see of you have any trouble codes stored in the system?

While watching the odometer display, start with the ignition key in the off position, then turn forward to run (not start). then, back to off, then back to run, then back to off, then run.

You should see either Pxxxx code(s) in the window, and then pdone when the list is through.

If all you see is pdone, then no codes are stored.

You could have a sensor on the fritz not allowing it to start, but I am still voting for something in the fuel system not doing its job.

Take some gas put it in a spray bottle, have some one attempt to start it as you spray some gas down the throttle body. If it fires start looking at the fuel delivery system. Injecters may have gas behind them but not opening.

I don't know about the Gen2, however the Gen1 "filter" is just a screen perm-attached to the pump. Change one, change both by default. Rumor of "change the filter" in Gen1 circles are internet rumor from those that have never seen the pump. You would have to break the pump by removing the screen. It is melted in place.

You have already replaced the fuel pump and it still wont start? if so I would look at the ASD relay and make sure you are even getting power down to the fuel pump in the first place. since you are getting it to run on external fuel I would look at the fuel pump control circuit begining with the ASD.

You said you "checked" the relay. Swap it.
