Transmission, mileage
Had a shift solenoid replaced a while back...after a "limp home" code and condition. Ever since, transmission does a lot of hunting around and the mileage has dropped dramatically...almost 20%. I took it in and they have gone through the whole thing including road testing, but they say "the line pressures are fine". Did an injector cleaning, all filters are new...
When in cruise control, starting up an incline, the pedal slowly moves to the floor but no shifting. I have to turn off cruise and move the pedal myself to make anything happen.
Had some TC shudder right after the repair and they did a flush, that cured the shudder temporarily but it came back for a while, now I think it's gone. Confirmed with dealer that they used the correct ATF.
Really frustrated since this all started after they replaced the solenoid. A thought...would the TPS affect shift points? I've read here that a faulty TPS might be to blame.
Thanks in advance for any help.

How many miles on your D? You might have a bad or intermittant issue with the TPS or throttle position sensor.
A bad TPS can cause bigtime issues with the trans as well as strange issues when the cruise control is in use.
You can replace it yourself, and the part is a whopping $40 or so at Auto Zone.

Any luck? Im having the EXACT same problem!! Only, in second gear on incline. Just replaced the shift solenoid and it started up. If this fixed yours, Im on my way to napa, with fingers crossed it will fix mine to!
Well, the new TPS messed everything up...D stalled multiple times and left me stranded on the turnpike. It would die and then I could start it up, so I finally limped it back to dealer. He told me that the TPS was not compatible...and replaced it with a new MOPAR unit...$125! That fixed the stall problem but not the shifting problem.
It still acts up when cruise is on...and it seems like it slips all of the time...usually in 4th gear. Goes thru 1-3 speeds, then on the shift to 4th it takes about 3 seconds for the tach to go from 2500 down to 1900...that seems awful sluggish to me. Cruise control is useless...unless you like full-throttle downshifts to go from 50 back up to 60 mph. I'm frustrated as hell...first because the "powertrain warranty" doesn't cover the TPS repair...that one ended up taking a $400 bite out of my wallet.
Second because the dealer can't find anything wrong...that the scan tool says everything is OK. Tomorrow I am going up there and taking one of the used Durangos out for a ride with the service manager, and then follwing up with my D. Hopefully he will notice that this thing ain't right.

I put new Solenoids in my tranny, fixed my shifting problems, but now in OD the truck surges RPM'S up and down.. So those Solenoids could be bad.. Not usually, but possible.. I hope mine is a bad solenoid, and not a bad torque converter.. Good luck

After you installed your new TPS, did you "reset" the computer? You do that by disconnecting the battery for about half an hour, or you disconnect the battery for a few minutes and turn the headlight switch on (turning the headlights on drains any residual charge still left in the system). The vehicle will run rich for a little bit afterwards, and won't be as peppy at first, as the computer learns how from the sensors all over again.
If the first TPS was bad, and the computer had learned to go by these bad values it was delivering, putting a new TPS with very different (good) values in would cause symptoms like you describe. My 2001 Ram with the 5.9L V8 (remember, same TPS as 4.7) started having problems with overdrive (4th) gear a year or two ago. By reading the forum, discovered a bad TPS would cause that. Put a new one in, and I was idling in the 1800-2000 RPM range! Turned it off, went back and read some more. Reset my PCM by disconnecting the battery as I described before, and then the TPS worked like a charm.

Sorry you are still having this issue. I think you might want to find another dealer though as $400 for a TPS is BS!
I have not heard of aftermarket units causing problems.
When the trans in my 01 D 4.7 was hunting with the cruise on, a new TPS from Autozone fixed the problem.
Don't let them screw around till your PT warranty expires. Something is not right there, and if it is covered, it should be fixed for the $100 and not God knows how much later on!
Has the trans been serviced, and do you have the correct ATF+4 fluid in it?
