Engine Build Date

Engine Build Date
Hi guys, been reading too many posts about the broken spring thing and engines blowing up on the 04 Durangos. Of course I own one of these and am getting paranoid. I also read that they used different springs on the "newer" 04's (towards the end of the build). So, am wondering how I find out how early or late the engine I have is.
I ordered the build sheet from Chrysler and nowere on it does it give any dates except for the top of the page where it says YR/Model: 2006 Dodge Durango Limited. Which is of course wrong as the 10th digit on the VIN is a 4 and all of my documents bill of sale insurance registration list it as an 04. Never mind that though.
I don't have a sticker on the inside of the door so thats no help either. Was wondering if there is a number on the engine somewhere where I can look and find out.
Thanks for any help,
RR

Strange that your D does not have the build sticker on the drivers door or door frame. Makes one think it may have been in a crash at some point, and either destroyed or removed in the repair process.
The build date for my 04 Hemi was 01/04, and its Hemi dropped a valve at 39K.
You should be able to come close on the build date by looking on interior trim panels and such. Most items like this have a date on the back somewhere.
If your D is running good, I would not fret about it. If you are not the only owner, possibly the engine is not the original one.

Hey Don thanks, yep I thought that was weird as well, having no sticker on the door but am sure the truck was never in a major accident. I'll look around see if I can identify anything good idea about the panels etc having a date on them. I noticed that in my Bronco a while back.
Thank you

Roy,
Just replaced an intake valve spring on my 04, dealer was able to give the build date from the VIN. Said mine was March 04. The new valve spring has a metal damper of some kind around the base of the spring.
I am planning on replacing the rest of the springs. I have 148,000 miles, the spring let go and would not run under 1800 without throttle, compression was 0 on that cyl (1).
