Angry Transmission failure, No warning.

I took my 2004 5.7 SLT for an oil change and get a call a few hours later that it won't engage into any gear. I have had no issues, no slipping, no warning signs. Any suggestions on what may have happened? I feel like I got the shaft and the dealer did it on purpose. I don't know how I can prove it.

It sounds like a linkage issue, when transmissions die they usually give off warning signs.

Also check to make sure there aren't any fuses missing.

Thanks for the replies. For some reason I didn't get notified. Anyone know where the linkage is or a diagram so I can find it?

Buster:
How many miles on your D, and how long have you had it?
As you may know, 2004 was the 1st year for the 2nd Gen Durango, and they did have some problems.

From what I have read, the engines (mostly the Hemi) were trouble prone. The transmisson not so much.
Possibly your torque converter has croaked. Verifying that the linkage is working properly is a good place to start. Have they checked the fluid level?

Has the trans ever been serviced as in fluid/filer drain and refill?

Current miles around 144k all highway, no offroading purchased with 33k. Engine has not been an issue, ever. Transmission also not any major issues. It was serviced around 75k with a single faulty shift solenoid. Linkage or gearshift cable is my guess at this point. Fluid levels seem to be fine. No leaks inspecting in around the pan, bell housing and transfer case.

Can you feel the trans shift into drive and just won't move? Does the shifter feel any different. I would also inspect the shifter linkage.

Long in short guys this turned ugly. I got the dealership to replace the trans with a lower miles trans at a very low cost to me. They called today to state that the block was cracked when doing the swap. The area of one of the bolts for the bell housing was 'busted' off when swapping. I'll leave it at that. I'm beyond words. and when shifting, no feeling. shift linkage was fine.... i found it on the right side and it was all solid.

Two things happens to the 45RFE and the 545RFE transmission, one is the filters. If the filters have been replaced and you don't have any gears. Then the main filter neck is not sealed correct. The other problem is the front pump and torque converter. A linkage problem will still allow you to go into gear. It maybe the wrong gear. If you guys have a problem with your transmission, let me know. Mark is right, I am a dodge transmission tech.
