plugs and wires may be a very good place to start. crappy spark may definately give you a bit of a sputter. and for a few bucks a bottle of injector cleaner couldnt hurt anything.
btw, how old are your current plugs / wires?

105,000km, roughly 65244 miles... if those are the origional plug wires than they need replacing. plugs right along with them... and if the air filter is ancient, dear lord. for the price the K&N air filters are well worth it, youll probablynever need to buy another air filter for it.please dont take it the wrong way butplease doteach her a bit about auto maintenence so she isnt another helpless chick.

Thanks for all the comments.
I looked it over a bit and the air filter appears to benew she says it was just changed. The plug wires look OK but are original so she's going to pick up a new set as well a new plugs (also original?). I put some injector cleaner in it yesterday so we'll see if that helps (can't hurt).
