eh, I know your pain mang 20DodgeNeon00... I know your pain.

I got quite a good list myself, and I happen to have a 3 spd auto. It SUCKS cuz I know how much faster I would be with a manual...

I am working on buying a 5 spd tranny. Gonna cost some money, so no more parts for a while

I have a 3spd auto in my car too and I am saving up to see about getting a PT Cruiser engine and tranny swap for my car. I want there autostick they have in them. Not sure though. The autos do suck though for speed after 85.

Hey guys thank you all for your input. After I posted this entry, I called up the transmission shop that installed my rapid transmission cooler. He told me that the auto tranny was hardly the issue of the speed of the car off the line. He said that first things first, the torque converter must be addressed, He said the stock torque converter is completely the issue off the line, its designed to protect the auto tranny, essentially making the car terrible out of first gear. I could either buy a performance tranny, or have my existing one rebuilt, ranigng from $500-700 dollars. Then he said maybe at a seperate time, go in and install a new shift kit as well as a new valve body. He said with those three things, including the transmission cooler, the car would completely be different off the line. Hopefully then, my mods could be used to their fullest effects. He also mentioned putting in a hypertech chip into the vehicle so it could maximize reving. I have a 90 day suspension coming in two days, so I am back to work on the car. I have some sweet 17" rims coming in the mail at the moment, and then I am putting a 3" stainless steel srt-4 catback exhaust on the car that fit snugly to the bumper and give it a roaring sound. Then after the appearance of the vehicle its spectacular looking (ill post pics up when i get the 17" rims on, lowered, and srt-4 exhaust on)...i am going to attrack the torque converter. By the time i get my license back, this neon will be roaring as hell and look like one of the best neons around, im pumped!

chips DO NOT DO ANYTHING for neons, seriously there is no chip out there that will all of a sudden overpower the PCM..... anyways.... for that price you are seriously better off buying a used 5 sp trans. for about $400-$600 and swap it yourself, if you do a search on this forum there is a post about what you need to do an auto to manual trans swap.... and im telling you aftermarket torque converters are a waste of money unless you are going for something like the "triptronic Supra" or the like...... the last thing you are going to want to do is pay over $700 and be left with minimal gains.... with the 3sp. auto 1st gear is pretty much as long as 1st and 2nd on a manual 5sp. trans so you will see a very very very small gain off the line, and if you put the aftermarket torque converter in you are going to shorten the life of your trans dramatically, you will end up sittin at the line and then ur gonna stomp on it and then "BOOOOM!" no more trans...... then there goes another few hundred bucks...

Hmmm...would you be willing to help me out in finding a manual transmission for my 2000 dodge neon. I mean, is it a realitic swap, or am i crazy for wanting to do that. It's a dodge neon, and ive already invested a ton of cash into it, is it a hard process to switch out the type of transmission in a vehicle, cause i know i wont know how to do it myself, id need my mechanic to do it for me, how much do u think id be lookin at to get a manual 5 speed transmission installed into my car with all the right parts ect, and installed by someone else? I really am serious about making this thing run as good as it should. I've got a aem true cold air intake, 60mm throttle body, long tube ceramic coated pacesetter header, 3 inch high flow cat and a vibrant dual exhaust, so i've got a lot into already and i just want to at least maximize my investment here...should i be real with myself and just get over this auto tranny deal and apprecaite the ride i was basically handed over to, or go on and do this?

First off, there is no Pacesetter long tube header. Nothing on your exhaust needs to be 3 inch unless you're putting serious power down.
I have to agree with everyone else. The Automatic sucks IMO. They are way slower than the manual. If you want to be way faster, get a manual. If u don't want to put much more money in your car, stop now. Power takes money (especially on a Neon).
