This topic is really gettin old I really hate when anyone puts down an auto . There are bad things about a 5speed also. I mean tranmissions go out more on 5 speeds than autos and autos are fast also hahn turbo FTW.

Yeah, agreeing with everyone else. Mine is an '02 es and the only mod is a AEM CAI. First gear flies up to 30 in just under 3 seconds, 2nd flies up to 50 fairly quick, I forget where I shift for 3rd haha, 4th goes up to 110 and THEN i shift to 5th! WOOO Its sooo fun. It sounds sweet too. Btw, 3inches is kinda big for an exhaust and I haven't heard too many good things about pacesetter and vibrant. If it were me...I would get some money and definitely get a car with a manual transmission and sell the ATX Neon. I have found several nice looking SRT-4s at a decent price. Around $10,000.

WE not bashing autos but they are just plain slow. They are built to last not race. If u want to the most out of your mods u have to go stick. I understand u can get quick on an auto. Look at spikeymikey he makes around 120hp on auto. But if he had stick it would be faster. If u want to make most out of your turbo u need stick. Yes they go out fasterbut it all depends on the driver.

Like I said I have some pretty nice engine mods and for me its fast enough have beaten alot of cool rides recently and not all autos are slow. I have a 1st gen hahn turboed auto that does pretty good at the track I have beaten some srt4s and wrxs that had decent mods . You can mod a auto pretty nicely with a nice turbo .

ok.... stop fighting here people, he is asking for help not asking for opinions anymore.... lol.... ok well you said you talked to your mechanic and he gave you all those suggestions about the torque converter... well ask him if he can find you a 5 spd. man. trans for your car from a junkyard that he deals with.....pretty much you are going to need:
1) Trans
2) Clutch and Components(flywheel, pressure plate)
3) the center console from a man. neon
4) the shifter linkage cabels, bushings, and the shifter assembly(or w/e its called)
5) pedal assembly from a manual neon

im prolly forgetting something here or there.... all in all you are looking at about $800+ just in parts..... you prolly dont even want to think about labor at that point....but if you really want to know about labor i'd say roughly $300-$500 depending on how long it takes the guy, or how bad he wants to screw you...... im not sure if you would need a differential from a manual, PM 03neonRT and ask him what you would need.... as he prolly knows better than any of us at this point....

For the price of a neon, hanh turbo and all other seperate parts neccessary to make it work...PLUS LABOR, you could've gotten yourself a stock SRT that is probably faster, and deffientely more reliable. Not to mention all the other cool seats, side skirts, bumpers and crap it comes with.

Drive your car until it blows up, then sell it and buy an SRT.

Yes, it was my bad. I have the MPX Longtube Stainless Steel header. ...Anyways, regarding the automatic transmission. To be quite honest, it's not going to make the biggest differance in my view, a neon is a neon. In fact, im not sure why we all expect the neon to perform so fast...its a 132 horsepower car, i should be happy with the zip it gets, even with the a/c on....honestly, i think having an auto in a neon is the best thing anyways...i mean having a manual is a lot of wear and tear on a vehicle, its constatly in stress, even trying to parallel park you're having to keep the idler up all the time. I love to go fast, and race, but really, i cant even speed anymore, im getting a 90 day suspension starting tomorrow. Other than racing, which isn't everything...the neon is a sweet car. I got a very exotic looking unique neon that EVERYONE stares at around here. It's loud as hell, and its not slow at all, i just went 0-100 in the car down my street so smoothly like butter, thats verrry quick (hill goes downhhill by the way and its really retarded i did that in a 25mph zone the day before i lose my license!), ....i love the way it looks, looks and sounds mean as hell, especially with the underglow kit on late at night. I also get some sick gas mileage. I've dumped a lot of cash itno this thing, and its worth it. Im 17, and everyone comments me on the car, because most neons look like **** and bums drive them around, so its a real testimentto your devotion to deck out a neon. I love the car, and i really enjoy drving it, racing isnt everytihng, nor can it be because you just will keep getting busted. But to put down the autos...its just silly. It's relibable as hell, way easier on your engine for the lifespan of the engine, and they keep up, i take a lot of people and there sticks becaue of their lagtime, i wasted my friend 2002 monte carlo stick shift, so its all good...but dont bag on the auto...auto or manual, its still a neon and we all are in the same ballpark, racing or not....

Also, im puttig the 3 inch exhaust on because really, i am not gonna gain much more horsepower as it is, nor can i lose much more, so id rather have a beautiful complete exhaust system starting from the exhast header back that will sound mint anyway, i really do know whati am doing, and i have the resume of modifications to know that by now, so i really dont appreciate people downplaying what i am doing, ive got one fo the sweetest looing neons out there without all the chincy fartcans and the stupid all show no go body kits....itsa neon, and i stick to the beautiful sleek look it comes with, and its one of the best neons i know around here...so don't like the negative comments, and the people who help put helpful and insituful comments here, i really do appreciate it, a lot, thanksguys!

Srt4s arent the best either lots of beat up engines out there . Thats why a new hahn turbo for an auto is well worth the money . Ive come across a ton of crappy srt engines out there and even to buy a nice srt4 is hard anymore with the abuse that these kids do to there srt4s . yeah theres a few nice srt4s out there but good luck at finding one. I was on your side and I have some of your same mods in my 04 sxt auto and I added a little more and I love my auto neon . Have had it for 3 yrs now and have no complaints . im happy with my auto just the way it is .

uh...

let me do the math here.

$10,000 (how much I bought the car for)
$3,500 for Hahn turbo
+$2,626 for my mods

I am still at LESS than it would be to buy an SRT. Plus, insurence is killing me right now for a grocery getter neon because I am 19!! I suppose it helps that I do all the work myself!

If I had an SRT i would be in debt up to my eye *****

I am going to offer you, 20DodgeNeon00 a couple decisions here you have to decide from to do.

1.)save your money; buy a manual tranny. If you do a search I was looking for some manual trannies a while back and people here gave me some sites.
2.)save your money, buy a turbo. Turbo'd auto's are not bad. They could be BETTER, but they are not too shabby.

and if either of those does not float your boat and you are looking for a "chip" to increase performance... like everyone else said. THERE IS NONE! HOWEVER you have an alternative. Because we (2003+) have an NGC POS ECU we need to go with a standalone system to control fuel/air and all that good stuff. MegaSquirt (AKA MS) does all that. We have a sticky giving the full info at the top of the 2nd gen forum. If you have a 2000, you can pick up some AF/X Race PCM's (basically a NEW RACE ECU) for an ok price.
also, you could help your situation with getting off the line buy purchasing some prothane motor mounts. You launches will be slightly better.

anyways, PM me if you need help finding stuff.
