Little Frustrated...
I'd just maintain the car and keep it till you can afford something liek the SRT, which is probably out of reach at this point I would assume? The trade in value on a Neon is pretty low, so don't expect a real good trade in value on it, they have one of the worst re-sale rates on the market. You'd be better off to sell it outright than trade it in I think. I have an ATX Neon too, but I didn't buy it to make it fast, I just needed a car that would get me from A to B and back again, and maybe at least look decent while doing so. But in reality it's all a matter of personal opinion. If you REALLY like the car, and you personally think it's worth it, then go for it, only really matters if you are satisfied with it anyways lol. I don't think in my personal opinion it is worth trying to make a racer out of the car you have now, at least not to make it lightning fast, it would cost too much and in the long run you could buy the SRT-4 if you really wanted to, granted you had the funds to afford the insurance. Best of luck!
Someone tell me how manuals put more wear and tear on the car? I'll tell you what puts wear on tear on the car, is the driver. If you know how to drive a car the manual will be less maintenance. Airwolf, don't get butt hurt about people not liking autos. But yes...neons in stock form are not that quick be it manual or auto. But you should compare apples to apples when you compare it to other cars. Obviously we aren't going to compare how fast neons are to something that costs 10,000 dollars more because its not a fair comparison. For the cars that are in its price range and intended market, it is probably the fastest in stock form.

I think you guys all make valid points, but really guys, i have so mcuh fun with my neon. My brother and I drove around in each others vehicles today before i lost my license, exactly 45 minutes ago...tjhis is said....but i was in his sweet f350 (7.5 liter, 460 cubic inch beast lol)....anyway, he was in front of me and he gunned it out of a left hand light and i did to with his truck, and **** i couldnt keep up (granted i was in a f350) but his truck roars up to 90 like butter, and there i was stuck behind a neon all decked out with a white underglow kit making all this sweet loud noise just barrling ahead going 115 down the road. i think we all need that sometimes lol, just someone to drive ur vehicle and see it from an outside perspective, really makes u appreciate wut u got, my bro mike said he completely felt the differance with all the mods, that tranny cooler really does help to, the neon loses a ton of horsepower when the tranny gets overheated past high mph, and damn that thing just flew, it was really fun doing some racing with him, the auto is sweet, shifts amazingly even with 80,000 miles on it and its meticulously maintained. Anyway im really sad though, i lost my license offically now for 90 days, it still hasnt hit me yet....but im getting the rims put on saturday, cannot wait. Then im getting the detail on wednesday. Anyway, im gonna just save so much cash working this smmer, and rite beforei get her back, ill have around $5,000, and i plan to drop $2,500 right into her (srt-4 exhaust, underdrive pulley, msd ignition system, af/x chip, maybe srt-4 hood, lowering springs, and many others to come!) This is gonna suck though! I need to drive, i love it to much, damn this is gonna be rough, but its NEON time, imgonna continue the project until its one fo the sickest neons...im pumped! THANKS again guys for all your input, all of it, even the arguments are helpful, its a sweet forum here, ya guys rock.
