Default Auto to Manual conversion

Okay,

My buddy finally got around to teaching me how todrive amanual andits really opened my eyes to how much poweris being left out of my automatic05 SXT.Ive been thinking about it for a while now and want to know what the neon gods have to say about converting my boring automatic.Pros and cons? Take it to a shop or DIY? Used or new swap parts?

Im pretty much pricing things at the moment, but im willing to pour 2G's intothe project.

Heres a basic list of parts you'll be looking to buy, most of them will be used, becuase new parts will cost A LOT of money...transmission (3.55 or 3.94), modular clutch, passenger side axle, clutch master and slave cylinder, shifter cables and clips, tranny side motor mount from a manual transmission 2nd gen, MTX PCM from your year car, shifter and shifter base, clutch and brake pedal assembly from a 2nd gen.

Total cost for parts will probably be around $1,000, maybe more, maybe less...if you have a shop do the swap, your probably looking at another $1,000 of labor, so do it yourself to save a lot of money. It shouldnt be difficult to do if your mechanically inclined and have a basic understanding of the transmission, its parts, and how it works. Just make sure you have some extra hands helping you out. It could be done in a day, but if your taking your time, taking frequent breaks, etc...probably a weekend project for most.

If your willing to put 2 grand into the making your sxt into a manual I would just do the srt turbo swap and tranny swap for 2 grand or maybe 3 grand much better in the longrun. Just buyer beware on those srt engine and trannys .
