Isn't a short ram intake like damn near non-existant for our neons? Considering that you're going to get about 3-4 inches of piping?

I wonder if I should cut my CAI and try to turn it into a SR.

THEN IT WOULD BE CUSTOM CUSTOM CUSTOM
I believe they have them on ebay. Unless you have a breather for that little sensor or whatever it is, it'd just be a straight tube just so you can attach the filter.

But that won't give you that sweet throttle resonse the CAI does...right? Did one fool on here spend like $300 on a sri?

say i don't mean to interupt the current conversation here, but i myself am looking to buy a cai. I was on the k&n website, and i was wondering if someone could tell me what the heck is so special about the 'aircharger'(63 series) and the 'performance induction' kit? and then why they're not legal in cali. I don't get it.

alsoooo couple weeks ago i happened to have bought a k&n drop-in filter and well, dropped it in. I wanna know if that actually gives me anymore power, 'cause it doesn't really feel like it. It just makes a lot of damn noise now, which I could do without. Well if someone could give me any tips to try with that before i drop the couple hundred bucks for the cai it would be appreciated.

thats all! thanks lol

It will give you just as much airflow, except the air will be warmer and less dense. So it will still be an upgrade over the stock system, but will not perform quite as well.

The air charger is basically likea short ram intake with a heat shield. The one for the neons are in a location near the air inlet where a cold air intake would go through so it gets some of the air from the wheel well instead of from the engine bay, which is cooler. As for not being legal in California, emissions sucks there. They don't really allow much of any modifications to cars as far as I know.

A K&N drop in filter allows more air flow and should give a bit better performance. Although I think there are certain things you can do to the stock air box to allow greater air flow. Those air boxes are designed to make the intake a lot more quiet and end up restricting airflow.

With regards to the Bypass valve on the CAI. I purchased (and installed) an AEM CAI (for 2004 2.0 SOHC w/ auto trans) and was contemplating the installation of a bypass valve. When I read the installation instructions for the valve, I couldn't really figure out where it should go in line. I contacted AEM tech support and even sent pitcures of the installed CAI. They informed me that this CAI set-up does not allow for the installation of the Bypass valve, there's simply no where that is suitable to mount.I'm sure if I wanted to put it on badly enough then I could find a way, but I'll defer to the tech support judgment that it just don't fit.

You would have to cut out a portion of the upper intake pipe to make the bypass valve fit correctly...

Right, but due to the sensor and the vac hose there's no where to cut and mount and still maintain the needed clearance around the valve. Here's my CAI installed:

Alright I looked it up for you and all you have to do is use the bypass valve as the clamp between the TB and the intake pipe...you'll also need to cut a little bit off the intake pipe since the bypass valve will be wider then the orginal clamp...heres a picture.

That's how I was going to install it...it makes the most sense. AEM told me that you shouldn't mount it directly to the throttle body due to vibrations (?) Any sense in their logic? At this point I just returned the bypass valve and decided to not use one....
