Default Is it possible that...

A couple of months ago, I looked into a getting a new exhaust system. I went down to the local muffler shop to see what they had and, despite everyone telling me not to, got a new tip for it instead of gettinga whole new system.

So,I stroll on in and the moron at the counter told me that the piping on 05 SXT's are big enough so that I wouldnt need a catback to get some extra power with the muffler gone. I didnt really believe him, cause he was also talking to me about how dodge is remaking the SRT-4 into an AWD in 2010 (which is not true, cause Dodge has gone queer with the cobalt).

Anyways, hes getting this new shipment in that day of these ones for neons, so I paid him and he put it on. It was cheap, sounded pretty fricken sweet, and I went on my way.

But, as of lately, my engine is hesitating, cutting out, and then proceeds to frustrate me beyond beliefwhen I get up to 3500 RPMs. I know that its not normal, because, well, ITS NOT NORMAL FOR MY ENGINE TO SOUND LIKE A GOLF SPIKE IN A DRYER at 3500 RPMs!!!

I changed out the plugs and wires, gapped em right, then re-gapped them right, and it worked for a bit, then started acting up again...

Now, I took it into three different people and they all said that it is the muffler tip not working right or not letting enough out or something or other, butI wanna check with the neon gods before I go tear down that shop brick by brick with a big hammer.

Could that moron at the exhaust shop sold me a tip that is ruining my engine, or amI on crack or something?

i have never heard of a tip not letting enough exhaust out.

by tip do you mean just a tip or do you mean a whole muffler?

(which is not true, cause Dodge has gone queer with the cobalt).
caliber btw lol but try unplugging your negative terminal for a bit, your comp might be messing with it.

the stock piping is 2.25in back until about a foot from the muffler where it turns to 2.0inyou wont gain anything from the muffler but sound, but do what you want. if you have the stock muffler still, you can try putting it on for a while and then trading it back and see if there is a difference

the sound i think is the car messing with the timing. its not dangerous, but its just an annoying sound. ive noticed now that i have my megasquirt that if i make it a little more rich in those areas or mess with the timing, it goes away. or a glasspack would fix it

Yeah a glasspack would help out nicely . I have one on my srt4 exhaust and not the cherrybomb the real 31inch glasspack.

a cherry bomb is a "real" glasspack... Its probably one of the originators of the style. My grandfather ran cherry bombs on is hot rod well before i was born.

also, can someone explain to me how anyting to do with the exhaust system is messing up timing?

To the OP, your exaust is not causing any problems... Check to see if there are any codes. If you already reset your battery you may have to wait a few days.

Yeah it could be his exhaust.... for example, not enough back pressure, too much back pressure, thus giving the downstream O2 sensor false readings, then the computer adjust the timing (witch really is not needed) causing themotor to misfire!

A cherry bomb is a cheap version of a glasspack and not as good and my glasspack does better for sound.
