Cool cool,

So why did you go with an SRT-4 turbo over hahn? All i have heard here is hahn, hahn, hahn! The only thing about turbos that I know is the basic "how it works." I was just thinking about getting an SRT-4 turbo for my 2.0l but then I wasn't sure if it was up there in the best turbos. Since a lot of SRT-4 owner replace there to AGP or something. But if you got the SRT-4 turbo would you use the SRT-4 stages(1,2,3)? The reason I was thinking about the SRT-4 turbo is because...its probably cheaper lol. Can I ask how much you ended up paying for the turbo, piping, and other requirements?

Oh, and what car would you spend $50,000? Personally, I would get a light weight RWD. Maaayyybe I would get an AWD. The only thing is....AWD is for people who can't drive haha. The launch...easy, the circuit track....easy. They look fun though.

There are many reasons why I went the way I went. The biggest is that all that you see in my list I did for under $3000. I have receipts for $2978.48. A lot cheaper than the Hahn kit. Also I consider myself very lucky with the arrangements I had at the time. With my welder and fabrication background and full access to my uncle’s machine shop, it made my install very easy. Not everybody is lucky enough to have that, so I don’t expect many to do this job as affordable as I did. Not to mentions parts for almost free and help from friends.

I look at the price of the Hahn kit and laugh. Maybe, at most, 3 of the things in their kit are actually theirs. Portfueler, manifold, and maybe downpipe. The rest is all sourced parts. If they are going to source out most of the parts and then make a profit off each… why pay them to get me the parts when I can get them myself?

I did not use a SRT “stageâ€â€¦ The SRT stage kits are mostly electronic and PCM programming. The turbo and manifold is the same for stages 0-2. Only the stage 3 has a bigger turbo and different manifold. The only part of my car I could put a “stage†label on is my injectors. Stage 0 are the injectors that come on the 2003 models only.

The SRT-4 turbo is a great turbo, but is limited to around 250-275hp. Any thing over that you start to lose the efficiency of the turbo. It’s a small turbo compared to others in the market. It’s a Mitsubishi turbo that has been around for a while and used on many other cars. It was actually tweaked a bit for Dodge. The obvious part is that exhaust wheel is integrated into the manifold. Also it is a reverse scroll turbo, meaning it actually spins the opposite way of most conventional turbos.

$50,000 huh!? Sorry Mopar fans…

BMWs are sweet. I think they are a surprisingly fast car. Especially for being the market of luxary. My next door neighbor had a exige or elise i guess. can't remember which one. he also had a porche and SRT-10. Then i guess he lost his business lol. The exige is a sweeeeettt car in my books.

Maybe I will go with an SRT-4 stock turbo and upgrade later. The hahn kit always shocks me when i see the price. I could do a swap for the amount of that kit and a swap will probably do me better than the kit at first....haha

Isn't the 2.0 and 2.4 pretty much the same engine, just different bore and stroke?
totally different block and head

ORIGINAL: TN.Frank
I'm sure the 2.0L can handle all the HP that I'd put into it,
with proper tuning it could. you will need to get a Megasquirt: stand alone ECU needed to boosting a 2.0. you must tune this yourself. also, anything over 10-12PSI you must build up the bottom end, atleast, recomended to do the top end/head aswell

and the MS system would be like those superchips for your truck that tune the a/f ratio, timing curve, spark timing Etc

ORIGINAL: TN.Frank
meaning that I'm only looking for around 200 HP tops
good luck without a turbo or nos

ORIGINAL: TN.Frank
I'm not trying to make a Pro-Stock drag car out of my Neon, just make it quicker for what IT is, not as a race car in general. I simply want to be competive against other 1.8-2.0L cars that are running around on the streetz(and of course beating that stupid Mustang in the 1/8th,LOL)
you should already be competitive if you're MTX. and to beat a mustang, turbo or nos

ORIGINAL: TN.Frank
I think once funds are available that a mild build of the 2.0L would get me decent HP and it'd still be reliable.
122WHP is all you will get naturally aspirrated with a radical build (I believe)
First, the 2.4 and 2.0 arent "totally" different. The same? No. Similar? Definitely. Just like the 1.6L...

As for your 122WHP is all you'll gewt with a radical build. Where did you find those numbers? If that statement is true, then explain how does a stock R/T produce more then that to the wheels?

Kalevra, you're going off what you read. And i'm not saying that's neccessarily bad because searching and researching is always good...but you really don't know what you're talking about.
Mmmhmmm.

Have you seen the turbo's BMW is using on the 135i? They are freaking tiny, and that engine still makes 300HP...people are saying this thing will be able to make 400+RWHP without breaking a sweat.

It's the exact set-up from the 335i... It runs 10.5:1 compression and 9psi. 1 turbo to 3 cyl. There was a post i was reading that they installed a boost controller and turned it up to 12 psi and made almost 80 whp.
