01 NEON R/T NITROUS?????

Ok since it seems like none of you actually know what you are talking about let me explain it. To the original poster, nitrous raises the octane level of the gas that you are running through the engine already when they mix in the combustion chamber. In effect less gas is needed but much more air to keep the air to fuel ratio the same. To allow this to happen most people especially when running large amounts of nitrous must retard the timing to allow the most amount of air into the combustion chamber before the spark. Now on your vehicle you have a distributerless ignition setup so you can't just turn the distributer. Oh and nitrous is far more violent than a turbo, its just cheaper. Now on your stock bottom end you could probably run a safe 5-7 psi of boost and net anywhere from 75-150 horsepower when properly tuned due to the extremely high compression ratio of the magnum sohc. If you want to spend the same amount of money and get a better and safer horsepower gain just buy a camshaft i think you would be much happier with that instead of nitrous.

When you heat nitrous oxide to a certain temperature, it splits into oxygen and nitrogen. So the injection of nitrous oxide into an engine means that more oxygen is available during combustion. Because you have more oxygen, you can also inject more fuel, allowing the same engine to produce more power.
An added bonus is that when the nitrous vaporizes it creates a cooling effect, dropping the intake air temperature significantly. Cooler air = increases air density. Essentially enabling you to have more air molecules per square inch.
BTW, nice first impression... welcome to DF.

If it does raise the octane level that doesn't really mean its more dangerous. Adding octane allows the engine to run at a higher compression without knocking. In a sense its a safe guard. From what I know the more the safer but it does require more air/fuel(energy) to actually combust. But hey, its complicated and don't quote me lol.
But regardless of what I just said. Do you know what I believe? That no, nitrous doesn't add octane. I'm actually pretty sure it doesn't have octane. I think all it contains is a gas known as "nitrous oxide" whoa! incredible, I totally didn't know that!! You cannot ignite just nitrous. All it is like adding more air. Thats really all it does.
So, no, moooore gas is needed. If you didn't add gas you would go ka-boom!
I still don't know the world about octane and nitrous. But I know some people who have posted here know a thing or two.

haha, didn't see you post that lol. but +1! I was in the reply screen for a while finding information to back up what I said so I didn't look like an idiot lol.
its totally up to you if you want to run the nitrous or not. i would suggest going with the zex wet kit if you do. the zex kit is a faster and safer install compared to nos or eddelbrock. all the solenoids and controls are all in one box. all you do is hook up bottle to box, box to fuel line, and box to intake. the kit for the neon comes with jets from 55 shot to 75 shot. upgrading your octane at the pump is recommended and it activates only at wot via a piggyback that plugs in between your tps sensor and its harness. check it out from zex. thats what im getting. btw, if you run it at the track, tech will fail you if you dont have a blow down tube installed by the bottle. its like 30 bucks extra.

yeah i realized that too, the guys first post and he puts that, who knows he might have been drunk when he posted it hence the name drunkenmaster

ActuallyI wasI don't usually get ignorant unlessI'm drunk so sorry to anyone I offended wasn't trying to be a dick. Sowhats all of your guys excuses? After looking around this forum itspretty lame anyways so no loss on my part. O and have fun with this as i'm sure you will tear me apart in a few minutes again anyways. I think its funny talking trash through a computer.

The "safe" standard is adding 50% of the hp your motor originally made.
I've raced at the track with plenty of neons running nitrous. You go real fast for a relatively cheap investment.
Make sure you run the correct plugs, 93 octane min. (preferable to tune timing out for nitrous), fpss, and correct bottle pressure and you're good to go.
The only people who dont think nitrous is safe are those who have read horror stories...not ones who have actually used it.
Edit- and yes...that guy is an idiot who said it raises octane.
