My 2000 Neon has no reverse, it's been getting weaker for a long time and it finally stopped engaging completely. First gear is perfect. I recall once being told about a tab or bracket or something simple inside on the reverse band maybe that bends. Supposedly an easy fix once you get inside the trans.

Sound familiar? I need this car working again ASAP!

 

FYI, it's a 4 cyl/auto

In searching, I found several other posts with a similar problem, but no answers...

 

are you sure that its going all the way into gear? try moving the lever towards park to see if it will engage up there and if it does then its out of adjustment.

 

Yup, tried that. No luck. It's been slipping in reverse for a long time, we dealt with it, but now having zero reverse is unacceptable!

 

I can hear the RPMs drop slightly in reverse, so something is trying, but no actual moving backwards.

There is supposedly a plate attached to the band that bends? and causes it to do this? That is what I am searching for.

Is there a manual online somewhere with good internal trans diagrams?
