Coolant Flush Help
Bump, boom:

FYI I ended up doing this a month or so ago, went with the Prestone. Yes, it is green. No, it is not like the old green stuff. Yes, it is more than safe for the aluminum in our cars and has the anti-corrosion mix already in it. I blended a 70/30 mixture myself, for maximum operating range.

Good link N30N.
Bottom line, if you do a proper system flush the way you should (I drained mine, then filled it with pure water, ran the engine, then drained again, then filled it with pure water + flush solution, then ran it, then drained again, then filled again with just water, ran it, then drained again... then FINALLY filled it with new coolant to somewhere between a 65/35 or 70/30 mix, and I used zero tap water, which is important) then you will be fine.
This coolant debate has been going on all over the internet. Bottom line, unless you do something really obnoxious, there are a lot of different possible types of coolant you could use. Not all, but a lot. The only horror stories I have ever heard are from people who seriously neglect their car, or have no business being under the hood in the first place. Doing your research is a great idea, but there is no one single "magic" brand that must be used in our cars.
Bottom line, do a proper flush, use a newer technology coolant (not one that's been sitting in your garage for the last 20 years) and do not mix different brands of coolants, and you will be fine.
What? lol

so pure water with flushing solution, hose water and then i should be fine with the regular prestone 50/50 iowa. Also iowa when you mean pure water like the water you use for aquariums. Like reverse osmosis such as the water you can get from the machines in walmart
Ha, no... I meant when you are doing the flush, "pure" water meant "plain" water, or water with nothing added to it, no coolant, etc etc. In other words, 100% garden hose is okay for the flush.
However when you fill up with new coolant, make sure you use clean, distilled/de-ionized water only, and NOT garden hose or anything else.

yea... and did you let the car run up to operating temp or did you just turn it on run it for a few min. and then drain it...? anyways wouldn't that leave some water in the block...? i thought you wanted to let it all settle in the over flow and radiator, which gives you the most efficient drain... then you just rinse out the radiator... and drain the remaining stuff left over after u flush it.... damnit people just go buy a freakin' Haynes repair manual, it tells you each and EVERY step on how to flush the coolant... and the premix stuff is a god send! :-D

no worries!
