Default Neon Ticking....

hi there everyone. i'm new here.i'm from Ontario Canada and i love this place. there is so much to read an i mean allot. i'm going to be Lazy about my Question here in hope of finding an Answer from some of my fellow Neon Owners. thank you in advance. so here is my complaint/problem.
i have a 2001 Neon LX 2.0. i bought the car with 14,000lm on it back in late Spring in 2003. i have had this Ticking Noises from the Engine. u can really hear it when the Car is warm and at opperating Temp and especially on a nice Calm Day. it can be really well heard when i'm going through a Drive Thru like at McDonalds. anyhoo.... i have complined about this from Day 1. the Car has just over 60,000km's on it. not sure what that is in Miles.
i had some sort of Update done oh the Computer and no good. after bitching and complaining to the the local Dealership in my Area they finally told me its called 'piston slap' so.... in December of 2004 the replaced Pistons/Piston Pin/Ring Package/Bearing Pachage. it was all done through the Gold Warrantee i have. so.... the Car makes the same noise. the exact same noise too. i brought it back in the first of the Year and i was told by there Shop Forman and Service Manager at the Chrylser Dealership that there was no abnormal noises heard. grrr...
i have also had to Rent Cars from the to have my Car left over night so they can listen for the Noise the next day. i have Rented all 3 Neons they have and there model years are from 2000-2002. not one of them maked this Ticking Noise. its pissing me off.
what shall i do? i'm fed up with that Dealership.any ideas what this can be from?
Thank You for listening to me rant and rave.
look forward to hearing your feedback !!

welcome.. There have been many posts on this. I have the same problem. havent figured it out though, sounds to me like a valve it ticking. Its been doing it for god knows how long. I changed the oil to 5w-30 and its still doing it. I was going to bring it to a place but like you just did that wasnt the problem. Iv herd from alot of people that its a cold weather tick. Not sure about yours but mines always ticking when its warmed up. I CANT STAND IT! lol

Well I have a friend who used to run a Dodge Service Dept. and when describing the TICK, he said it is the lifter ticking in cold weather. My car has 7500 Miles is an 04 and it does it when the temp is below about 10°F outside with the car cold or warm when you let it back down to idle after running at part throttle.

His response was welcome to Chrysler four cylinder engine. Try Sythetic oil. His 1990ish Dodge Daytona had this same problem until he swithced out for Mopar Performance Purple Shaft cam upgrade. Said not to worry too much. Annoying yes.

Mine just got an average of 33.75 MPG mixed driving(mostly highway) on reformulated gas.

Thinks its just a lifter bleeding down similar to a Rhodes colapsable lifter although it should not.

hi all
thanks for your Feedback. i wonder will this Ticking harm my Car in time? the Shop Foreman told me the last time i was there as he listened to it. grrr.. u could hear the ticking/rattling from the Drivers Side Front Tire well. really well actually. he lifted the Hood up on the Car and could barely hear the sound . you know the damn Engine from running and also the Fan. anyhoo.. he said it might have to do with Timing? i'm lost.
about Valves. if its the Valves what would having to Replace the Piston/Rings have to do with it?
i wonder... but i really appreciate your FeedBack.
i have another Question but i'll Post itas its a different Topic
have a good day and its beautiful where i live today !

by 03 has had it from day one some days its louder than others, mobil 1 synthetics don't hide it so nothing will. I might try some of that purple racing oil see if it helps but I'm not worried about it.
