Default HARD SHIFTING

WELL TODAY, I WAS DRIVING AROUND ENJOYING THE NICE WEATHER, AND I WENT TO DOWN SHIFT TO 3RD, AND THE CAR WOULDN'T DOWNSHIFT, IT WAS LIKE THERE WAS NO TRANSMISSION CAUSE I COULDN'T SHIFT INTO ANY GEAR AT THAT POINT, I PULLED OVER A RESTARTED THE CAR, AND IT WAS FINE, BUT IT DID IT AGAIN, ABOUT A MILE DOWN THE ROAD, I COULD STILL SHIFT, BUT IT WAS REALLY HARD TO, AND WHEN I GOT BACK TO THE HOUSE IT SEEMED FINE. ANYTHING I NEED TO CHECK, I THINK THE CLUTCH IS FINE CAUSE IT GRABS NICE, DOESN'T FEEL LIKE IT'S SLIPPING AT ALL. WELL IF ANYONE HAS ANY SUGGESTIONS, THEN FEEL FREE TO SHARE. THANKS

there is no hydraulic clutch in the neon. I would think that your syncros are starting to go. When you are up shifting it is less presure on the syncros than when you are forcing a downshift. It will go in if you pull or push on it hard right? You could just be low on fluid or have bad fluid, but it sounds like the syncros are goin. Change the fluid and see if its any better, if not be ready to do a trans in a few thousand miles.

Correction. There is hyrdaulic clutch in the neon. My 04 has a hydraulic clutch....I would tend to think that his 01 probably has the same setup in it. But I would agree with you that his clutch as nothing to do with it. Probably his synchros like you said.

Oh yeah...The fluid resevoir is right by the battery. There should be two of them....one is for brake fluid, the other is for the clutch. The one on the right should be the clutch and th one of the left should be for the brakes. It should say on the cap....but thats how it should be if I remember right.

Oh ok, I am sorry then. I have a 1st gen and it does not have a hydraulic clutch. But still if the level in the resivor is full then its almost certainly the syncros.

I'm thinking thats why the clutch pedal is so soft. I've driven my friends WRX several times and the clutch pedal on that is so stiff compared to mine. I almost always stall mine after I've been driving that. My clutch pedal is like butta. I kind of like the stiffer clutch pedal.
