Do you have to change spings with struts?
I need to change out my front struts. Ride is feeling rough and I'm getting the same thunking noise my rear ones did before I changed them out. When I did my rears, I used Monroe Quickstruts, so I did springs and struts all at once. My question is, do I have to buy new springs to go with the new struts, or can I just re-use the ones I have? (provided they're not cracked or broken of course) I'm on a budget and re-using the springs would save me about $100.
There seem to be conflicting points of view on this subject so I figured I'd chime in here and see what you guys think.

If your on a budget than I would stick with your springs you have on now but actually getting new springs with your new front struts would save you time and money down the road. Plus your old springs might wear out your new struts faster seeing they are getting old and warn out . Its all what you feel you can afford not us.

I have seen it happen on alot of cars and trucks if you have new struts and you use your stock older springs than it tends to wear on the new struts . Happened to some of my older vehicles over the yrs .

Wow, that's amazing. I can't believe you've seen a lot of vehicles with this failure. You must be 70 years old and worked in a chassis shop your whole life.
Do you understand the physics of spring modulus?

lol, thanks for the replies. I have another quick Q: (maybe another dumb noob question, haha) I've read that the springs dictate ride height, and the struts dictate ride quality. Is this true?
I kind of hope so because I put Quickstruts in the back and it raised the rear a little, giving my neon a (IMO) more aggressive look.
