Default Cold Air Intake

I am expecting my intake to arrive tomorrow. When i install it what should i expect. From what i understand i was told i need to take the box off where my old filter is. does that need to come off or no? even after installation of the new one. I also understand that the front drivers side tire and the plastic panel and splash guard come off as well. its my first car and i dont have much exprience with vehicles. so is this going to be a nightmare taking all of that off? how long should it take..? Also, any tips for a beginner? lol. Thanks!

You'll have to remove the factory air box, yes. The plastic splash guard and tire will probably have to come off, just for installation. That shield goes back on. How long will it take? Depends on your skill. Just take your time and do it right.

i just did one on my car. when you take the inner feinder off there is a air box you have to remove. also on your intake tube there is a hole for your MAF sensor, if there is no rubber gasket in there you will have to make one or buy one, you need that there. i have good instructions i will try and figure out how to post it on here. its on a adobe file.

The useless box in the fender is the air silencer.

Took me 45 minutes, including some fabrication because I hit a deer.

The air silencer will have to be removed too, yes. I took it out anyways, and I don't have a CAI.

I did this back in 2008 so my memory is a little fuzzy. Took a little over an hour but it was about 100 degrees that day so we took a break or two. It was pretty simple to do comes with instructions. Expect a cool sound, a little bit better throttle response, and a nice boost in fuel economy. I saw 5-7mpg increase with my particular intake.

A 7MPG increase? I find it hard to believe a CAI boosted fuel economy by ~33%. If they worked that well, they would come on every car from the factory.

I observed 7mpg one particular week, average of 3-5 mpg gain I'd say. I was getting 29-31mpg prior to intake and consistently remember getting 34-36mpg after the intake...at least until I put on the SRT4 catback and that dropped it by 3-4mpg, might have been the pressure change
