Default 2005 SXT not starting.

Hi guys.

I have a 2005 SXT that is just refusing to start. Started about a week ago, was driving, car stalled at about 15mph, managed to pull over, went to start it again, wouldn't start.

When I go to crank the engine, it will crank, but it's a very slow crank.

84000 miles, I have 1/0 gauge wire running from battery to starter, all grounds, and from alternator to D block to two amps in the trunk. I have an HO alt running around 150 amps.

I've replaced:

the starter
alternator
battery
camshaft position sensor
crankshaft position sensor
coil pack
Accessory belt
Alternator belt
Plugs & wires 2K miles ago

I read the codes and the only one I got was P0700, but I'm not having any transmission issues, so wasn't sure if that had any relevancy.

Oil change about 2K miles ago.

I smelled some gas/fuel on the first spark plug and wire, haven't changed them since this started happening. No carbon trails that I've seen.

I was thinking fuel pump, timing belt, or ECM/PCM. But I don't know which one to do first! I'm going to get new plugs & wires tomorrow and see if that fixes it.

Driving me crazy! I've only drove this car about 5K miles so far. Just bought it.

Does anybody know what this could be?

When did you replace all the above parts exactly?..

Why don't you disconnect all your stereo equipment, check all important connections, charge and test your battery, and make sure that your alternator is charging.

I've replaced all the above parts within the last two months.

Within the last week:
camshaft position sensor
crankshaft position sensor
coil pack
starter
battery

The car won't start, so how can I test if the alternator is charging?

I've used a multimeter and checked connections and I'm getting 12.65 volts to the starter, fuse relay box, etc.

I had an older battery in this car then switched to a newer battery which is two years old, but rarely ever used. Got it charged at autozone, and was at a beautiful 12.68 volts.

But you say that it's cranking slow?

You can try to turn the engine over with a breaker bar on the balancer. See if it's hard to turn.

Alright I'll try that next. I was wondering the same thing myself, I briefly attempted to manual crank the engine, but I just used my finger, so no dice.

Thanks for the advice.

If it does end up being hard to turn take the belts off and see if any of the pulleys are frozen.

If you find your problem post it back on here.

Belt as in the AC/ALT belt? and the pulleys over there? Or am I mistaken?

Yes, sometimes the bearings in the pulleys will freeze up and the only way to find out is to take the belt off and try to spin them all by hand.

Just did a compression test, and I'm getting 30 PSI across the board. Also replaced the spark plugs before I did the test. Why is the compression so low? Would that cause the car not to start?

Absolutely. But remember if your engine is cranking slowly you are going to get messed up compression test results.
