1 quart a week is pretty freaking bad. Do you see any oil in the PCV hose? maybe there is too much crank case pressure. If that's not the case, he probably did something wrong with the Ring installation. Like forgot an oil control ring on one of the piston?
or accidentally snapped the ring when he trying to pound the piston, I've done that myself a few times.
when you rebiuld a motor your supposd to use a break in oil for so long. maby its suppost to burn it at 1st? i donno, check to see if your oil filter still has its gasket
If you have another connector on hand, it would certainly be the best fix. I also added a little extra thread sealant to my new oil pressure sensor when I replaced the old leaky one.
Sounds like excessive blow by. Either too much pressure in the crankcase from the combustion chambers or it's not venting properly and I'm surprised your plugs haven't fouled out. Have you checked the pcv valve? I would think worn rings, but if they're new, then possibly the ring gaps weren't staggerred properly, which would suck, but I would definately do a compression check.
