Default thumping sound

Alright so here's the deal. I was doing highway speeds down the road and suddenly the guy in front of me decides it's a smart idea to slam on the brakes for no reason and cut into my lane so he can make his exit which is still another mile down the road. So I jump on the brakes pretty hard and end up veering into another lane while doing so (I locked up the brakes). This was on dry pavement and a little cold out. Now driving there's a thumping but there are no visible bald spots on my tires. Is there something that could have been knocked loose or started leaking that would cause this shaking? Could it be an engine mount? Tranny fluid? Any insight would be appreciated.

I'd take off your front wheels and check your suspension/brakes/rotors for any noticable problems. I'd also check your rotors for wear.

How loud is the thumping noise?

not all that loud, it's enough to shake the car approximately once every tire rotation. It almost feels like there's a bald spot on the tires, but there's not.

Have the balance on the tires checked. You might have thrown it off. That'll get you the same noise if its what I'm thinking it sounds like.

A local shop should be able to do it relatively quick/cheap.

When you got on those brakes you may have warped a rotor. I would take the tire off and inspect them.

The tranny is completely out of the equation, as are the motor mounts. A mount wouldn't break by jamming on the brakes unless it was already almost completely broken or rusted-out. If the thumping frequency is speed dependent, you do have flat spots on at least one tire, you just can't see it.

Arrive alive,

Bill

Just have the tires balanced and you should be fine. If not you warped a rotor.
