help turbocharging an 04 SXT
i just got a used 2004 neon SXT that i want to turbocharge. Only problem is that i can only find one entire turbo kit for it. It is a Hahn turbo kit that I found on www.sportcompactonly.com and it is $4,140. They say it will work perfectly on a stock neon. My question is will I need an aftermarket turbo exhaust or will a regular aftermarket exhaust system work? Also if you guys know of anything else I would need to make the turbo compatable with the car please tell me. Thanks.
i dont want to miss anything really important but i also dont want to talk to you like your a moron if your a near-mechanic. so here it goes... the turbo will have be attached to your exhaust manifold, so youll probably need to adjust fire for your downpipe lining up. but your current exhaust should work well from there. more air is gonna require more fuel, so make sure you can get it there. youll need an intercooler (and completely reroute your piping from the intake to the throttlebody to accomidate this) honestly for the cost and amount of work a complete 2.4 SRT swap will cost around 5k, depending on how much work you can do yourself. the 2.4 is capable of a bit more power without upgrading internals. either way keeping the stock sxt look and adding a nice powerhouse makes a great sleeper. best of luck in whatever you choose to do.
PS, if your interested in the srt swap, perhaps PM nicks2kes, as they did this swap. Also, try searching the topic, im sure its come up 100 times before, and has been replied to by far more knowledgable folks than i. there is also a sticky regarding this subject.

Here are the two main parts I am looking at for my car. the turbo is the stage 2 model that includes an intercooler. I also chose a magnaflow exhaust (i may go with a thermal instead). The magnaflow i chose is for the 2.0L version but there was an option for a 2.4L turbo exhuast (of course i can't get that one).

As to the SRT-4 engine swap it is a lot more work than I can manage especially since i will probably get most of my mods done professionally. Right now i have an automatic transmission too so i would not only need the engine but i would need a manual transmission, fix the engine mounts, most likely header/exhaust system, wiring harness, and a new ECU.

well you can buy a hahn kit for 4200, or make a kit yourself for about half, i have about 2500 in my kit but that includes everything, turbo, clutch, injectors, intercooler, manifold, fuel management system, fuel pressure regulator....ect ect, so if you can get the knowledge to build your own you will learn alot along with save some money!!! it is all up to you, and about the srt swap, it is a good idea but if you wanted an srt engine just buy the srt 4!!!!
Ok where to start. The Hahn kit is the best out there if you have the $4,200.00 to buy it, it comes with everything you need to make it work and function properly. Our 2.0 engines can handle roughly 250wtq before rods start breaking, so get it tuned, dont listen to Hahn and crank the boost o 10 or 12psi, get it tuned properly so you dont f up your engine for good.
For the exhaust, i would highly suggest the 2.5" Borla/Mopar Catback exhaust, its made for the SRT-4 but its all interchangeable. I would also suggest buying a wideband A/F gauge just so you can keep an eye on things...

03neonrt...........YOU ARE SOOOOOOO RIGHT!!!!!!!! tunning is the MOST important part of a turbo kit!!!! my kit that i put together is made from a kit off a saturn, that the kid never tuned, and he blew his engine three times till he got it tuned then he drove for it for eight months with out one problem, i am getting mine tuned as soon as my turbo is on and exhaust finished it is getting dropped off at the tune shop before i start it.... i would rather be safe than sorry....as for hahn is concerned, i would be really p*ssed if i spent 4200 on a kit then blew up my engine because i did not spend the extra 200 dollars to get the car tuned by a professional.....and i bet hahn or any other company is going to tell you tough luck!!
Very true, Hahn has no warranties expressed or implied if you blow up your engine with their turbo kit, you would be royally screwed. Oh and i also forgot, you will need a new clutch.
