Picking up an old Franklin Stove tomorrow to put in the living room fireplace. Currently using propane and it's just too damn expensive...

Post pics!!! What are you paying for propane? I had my 500 gallon tank filled back in September @ $1.90/gal for a total of $296. That's CHEAP!

I will post pics.

We have an old 420# tank around but don't use it anymore. 100# tanks cost $65 at the cheapest place around, problem is between the propane heater and the range (a professional chef's stove with grill, 2 ovens, and 6 burners) it lasts about 2 weeks if it's not damn cold out.

Last year when we had the week stretch of sub 10* days we used it up in a week.

Sounds like you either turn the furnace up too high or your domicile is drafty.

I have propane heat, dryer, water heater, and stove. If I an frugal with the thermostat, I can make that 500 gallons (actually 400 since it can only be filler to 80% capacity) last through until March.

It's a "portable" propane heater, Rinnai RCE-606A-P.

Usually set the temp to 70* or 72*. Problem is the house, it heats the room well, but there's no insulation, brick wall exterior, brick wall interior, as well as the house was build on the ground, with minimal popcorn insulation between the floor and ground...

Drafty is probably an understatement.
