The Official 2nd Gen RAM Forum OT thread
So I'm just curious...
Why don't many off-roaders like IFS systems? Do they just not get as much traction? Or are they weaker?
Personally I dislike front wheel drive IFS because they come out of alignment all the time... But I LOVE the dual I-beam IFS on the Ford (It's 2WD, maybe thats it), it's a very smooth ride.

Chevy IFS is just a POS, especially the coilover they used on their pre-2000 full size trucks. I've literally seen people trying to corner fast with them and have the damned axle go flying out from under the truck... That's why you will have a hard time finding a new IFS setup for a Chevy in a junkyard around here, cuz either they've all broken or they've all been pulled to replace broken ones.
Be a good idea for him to check haha.
Very true, very true.
But wait a minute, YOU, a CHEBBY? J/K... Lol...
Them Ford twin beams are big. I'll have to get a pic sometime. It'd take a heck of a lot to damage one of those. IMO those IFS are only appropriate for rear-wheel drive vehicles that are intended to be mostly on the highway. The IFS rides superior than a solid IMHO.

Okay I know it's the Ford... But I love how clean it is and I just have to share.
She's still a beauty even after 24 years. All original interior and exterior except front seat. Exterior pics are from last summer, interior are from today.

This is the rear seat. Literally been sat in only 5 or 6 times in its entire life. It's the original seat too.

All dash lights work, I've never touched a single one nor has the PO. I don't know about the original owner.

I LOVE how shiny the dash is still. Not a bit of fading on the dash. Not a single crack either!!

Wood grain trim ain't even yellowing.

No cracking in the door panels either!

A feature I just love. Usually this is only found on regular cab trucks. This is the REAR seat in this super cab truck. Extra storage space!

Doors open and close without a single bit of binding. They are aligned perfectly.

This is about the straightest bed on a 1989 I have ever seen.

The only defects on the body.
This is a crack in one of the fiberglass fenders. It is still structurally sound, easy enough of a repair. Just drill and mold.

Some of the paint got chipped because of a missing mudflap. Primer is still there so no rust other than some hardly visible surface rust on some scratches.

Towing 18,000LBS trailer weight. Truck would have been perfectly level except I had the old tires on it. Truck handles perfectly with this load, has no trouble stopping or hitting 70MPH on the interstate.

These are the new tires. They are larger and wider than the old tires. Levels the truck and gets a much better ride and traction.

Playing with the Ford.

Now for what this truck WAS.
Just a couple of weeks after we got it, found all four rear tires flat... Ughh...

BTW that's not mud. That's after a complete wash.

Tires are entirely bald and the paint is terribly dull.

These next pictures were actually taken the same day we purchased the truck. Especially note the poor front seat.

That thing on top of the dash is the F350 decal for the front quarter panel. I had to reattach those on both sides of the truck.

The falling apart seat.

So there ya go. Hope I didn't bore y'all. I just was quite amazed looking back through all of the pictures. It just goes to show how there are some really nice older trucks that can clean up VERY nicely.
